Microsoft and Adobe discuss how to defeat Apple’s iOS platform; Microsoft to acquire Adobe?

“According to a New York Times Bits blog report, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen met recently to discuss joint strategies to defeat Apple’s iOS platform. The story said a merger of the two companies was discussed,” David Morgenstern reports for ZDNet.

MacDailyNews Take: A meeting of the behinds.

Morgenstern wonders, “How can our confidence in Microsoft and Adobe be strong – together or on their lonesome – when it appears that they lack the competence to hold secret meetings? That’s another thing that Apple certainly does right: the cone of silence. If you can’t get that right, how will they perfect a coherent Web platform strategy and/or technology that will work successfully without killing battery performance mobile devices.”

Morgenstern writes, “Another related question: Is Apple the only mobile system vendor that seems to understand that when the battery is dead, all performance stops? That seems to be where Microsoft and Adobe should start their discussion.”

  1. First, they should both stop trying to defeat Apple and concentrate their efforts on making great products that people want to buy and use. There’s a big marketplace out there and it’s got room for more than just one “winner.”

  2. Am I the only one who thinks this merger would be a very bad thing for Apple?
As a magazine designer using Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, etc, the idea of these products falling under the influence of Micro$oft seems like a disaster in the making. M$ can only screw Adobe up – and that’d be a very bad thing for Apple in the print and design industry…

Apple acquire Adobe? Ugh. Perhaps to shut them down only. Adobe understands great user interface design and experience like Steve Ballmer understands why MS is fading into obscurity. That is to say, not at all. For 1/10th the cost of buying Adobe Apple could put their minds to creating a suite of products that would blow Adobe’s CS out of the water, if they wanted to.

  4. Well, it’s pretty likely that someone will acquire Adobe. Mostly likely are Microsoft or Apple. MS would make the whole thing sink. Apple could do some cool stuff with the Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)… and phase out Flash. They have good creative minds at Adobe… but they need help.
