MacUpdate is offering Pixelmator 1.6.2 for US$29 today only. That’s 51% off of the retail price of $59.
Pixelmator is a beautifully designed, easy-to-use, fast and powerful image editor for Mac OS X has everything you need to create, edit and enhance your images.
Pixelmator is a layer-based image editor. You can quickly create layers from your photos, other pictures, from selections or even your iSight. Yes, Pixelmator can add a layer to your composition directly from your Mac’s little camera. Not only can you link and arrange added layers, but Pixelmator allows you to blend layers, change their opacity, create clipping masks or even add layer masks to hide some portions of layer.
It even has iSight compatibility so you can have it take a picture and add it as a layer for editing.
More info here.
MacDailyNews Take: We use Pixelmator daily and recommend it highly.
Boo! No props for sending this to you? Also, the deal is good until Sunday midnight, EST.
If only it was compatible with NIK products….I’d be on it like white on rice.
Serious review question. For semi pro work, can this replace Adobe PS?
Also how does it compare to GraphicConverter?
I have been using it more and more the past year as a replacement for adobe PS. It’s great! The layout is very In-line what you expect on a Mac. This is great deal by the way.
@ajdowntown
The download page has a timer, and it says that the deal is available for another 10 hours. Tick. Tick. Tick.
Too bad no CMYK 🙁
No CMYK means it useless for 90% of what I do with Photoshop.
Jubie nope
Jubei:
Not quite…but it’s worth getting and might serve you well
I just went and bought it. It’s very slick. Coming from Photoshop I felt right at home. It’s got some nice tricks here and there. The only thing I miss right away is color management, which is almost nonexistent. But hey, support them and they’ll keep at it.
Is this really news?
“For semi pro work, can this replace Adobe PS?” —Jubei
Anyone who seriously believes that a $59 app can replace a $500 app should think again. On some other planet, perhaps, but not on this one.
Of course, the answer to your question also depends on what kind of work you are currently doing in Photoshop. “Semi pro”, which could mean anything, is a meaningless phrase. The key point is that Photoshop, despite its many faults, is a deep and powerful piece of software. Speaking as a professional graphic designer who has been using Photoshop since version 1.0, I find it hard to believe that any $59 consumer app deserves to be compared to Photoshop at all. But hey, maybe I’m wrong.
@alansky:
The Adobe product it competes with is Photoshop Elements, not the full Photoshop.
And I’m not a graphic designer, but a scientist. Pixelmator fulfills 99% of my requirements of image processing.
Well I just got it. For $30 I don’t think you can go wrong. I don’t like the black gui tho.
They must be ready to release a new model. That’s always the way with these promotions/
@NHL
Look below the buy button, it says future 2 day sale also for $29, for a total of 72 hours, or 3 consecutive days ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />
I tried pixelmator out when it was version 1.2 but didn’t buy it because I only had my aging PowerBook but for $29 that’s a freaking steal!!! Even $59 is great!
Okay alansky, not semi-pro then. Photoshop Elements is probably the right comparison as elgarak points out.
Bodie: I don’t like the black gui tho.
Me neither. But I coughed up the cash anyway, since my dislike of Adobe is second only to that of Microsoft.
Just bought it! Now for some exploration.
Definitely wouldn’t work for me. There is no history, no actions, no batch (supposedly has a lot of automator stuff), etc.. But looks like it might work for infrequent simple image editing.
Looks like the $29.00 price has been extended through the weekend.
I feel so stupid. I was trying to purchase this program and paid for it with PayPal and downloaded it only to find out that it was some kind of family tree maker. (Which may be a good program. But is no use to me) Can you help me?
For the main Mac OS X UI font, Lucida Sans will be Windows closest match to Lucida Grande, which is Mac-only from what I’ve seen.The older versions of Mac OS used fonts called Charcoal (OS8, OS9) and Chicago (OS7 and before) for menus, buttons, title bars, and Geneva for other parts of the UI; I’m not sure if there are Windows equivalents but there may be.
