Google sues the United States of America

Apple Online Store“Google has sued the US Department of the Interior because its Request for Quotation regarding a messaging solution demanded the use of Microsoft software,” Thom Holwerda reports for OS News.

“Obviously, didn’t sit well with Google, and I’m sure other companies putting out competing software aren’t happy about it either (does Red Hat serve this market?). Google is seeking permanent injunctions against the Department of the Interior moving forward with this specific Request for Quotation until the DOI allows decent competition for the RfQ,” Holwerda reports.

Not the “open” FUD again! Do you *really* “hate” to say it. Or does it give you a secret thrill?

This is FUD cloaked in the guise of reasoned discourse. The Mac App Store will only be one source of software for the Mac. The day that Apple locks down apps for the Mac is the day that I (and many others) will divest ourselves of Apple hardware. It won’t happen in the foreseeable future. Give it up.

  2. Yes, our stupid government insists on the least secure OS, and the least secure browser.

I hope someone buys a clue someday. And you think I want these idiots handling my health care? It think not.

  3. Yes indeed.
ALL government is evil, stupid, ineffective, elitist, and should be abolished.
ALL “free market” organizations are good, efficient, moral, and concerned for the greater good of We The People! No elitists in the private sector.

You don’t see a problem with a majority of US governmental agencies forcing contractors to use a solitary, specific OS to submit contract bids? The government is essentially forcing their contractors to, at the very least, have access to a Windows based computer. Why? It’s one thing to require bids be in a certain layout or design but to do this? It is folly and, hopefully, this lawsuit will result in some changes to government practices.

  5. to KillJoy + Keller

    you both miss the point.

the Mac App Store (MAS) is brilliant.
it’s a myth that it will reduce choices for mac users, to only apps apple approves. it’s the opposite.
it will give some users, who prefer total simplicity, automation, the choice for the fastest, easiest, most fun way to shop for software on the deskop. you’ll see all other OSs will mimic it, incl. Windows 7, 8…

why are you spreading fud or rumors or misinformation, without facts?!

plus, you are ignorant. have you not heard of canadian software “Bodega”?! it’s been out since Aug 2009! it’s very similar to MAS (which itself is out Jan 2011). if any apps are omitted in MAS, you’ll probably find them in Bodega!

plus there’s plenty of sites to download any software on the Mac from:
    iUseThis
    VersionTracker (now cnet downloads)
    MacUpDate
    MacApper
    SoftPedia
    DownloadSquad etc.

not to mention tons of torrent sites etc.

    your arguments are mute.

as for Keller: Microsoft (MS) rules?
which world do you live in?!
    MS used to rule.
they’ve been declining since they started!
but i suppose your short memory span is typical nowadays. it seems the new generation or old if affected, suffers from an excuse of a disease: ADD.
it does not exist! it’s the biggest hogwash excuse for being lazy. plus it’s medically not proven, in fact, it’s due to a single food ingredient in our shitty national artificial diet, that when not taken, rids it within a days.

anyway, MS is headed by fat slob Ballmer who has never succeeded in anything. if he’s still at the helm, let it be, go to rot. who needs MS anyway. he can scream all he wants, it won’t save the firm.

as for Bill Gates, he was the smartest legal criminal ever for selling crapware to the masses. he was clever enough to recognize the licensing to all manufacturers. THAT is why MS only exists nowadays, thanks to its massive base, nothing more. there are alternative OS, such as MacOSX, Linux, Ubuntu etc. that are cheaper and much more reliable. if MS is still there, it takes time for change, but the avalanche has started. humans don’t like change, so just wait for the momentum…which started with Apple’s Intel chips & Get-A-Mac ad campaign and now iOS mania.

MS also hired the world’s top 100 brains, with each $1M salary + bonus, yet in 2 decades, has anyone benefited from anything of value they produced?! Apple’s genius Jonathan Yves produces successful products every year! MS is fried. Bill Gates’s only genius was licensing, but he keeps swearing to MS innovation since he retired, though losing 1/2 his fortune in MS lousy stock and surviving on his fake charity with his wife: MS never gave $ away until too much media pressure forced him to. he has nothing else to do now anyway, and knows his tech legacy will crumble – his image might be saved by benevolence he thinks.

    MAS is revolutionary. a choice.
MS is losing. what’s there to rule?

  6. Much as I despise the Neo-Con-Job and their Tard Party suckers, I have to point out that one of the MASSIVE FAILs of the Obama administration is their hard core computer ignorance.

Obama is in Microsoft’s back pocket. Therefore, the US federal government gives away the store to every hacker and cracker on the planet. Pathetic. “Yummy!” says Red China.

    Solution: GET A MAC!
