But are there bigger plans in the works?’ tech site Appolicious asked after the companies announced their iPad pact. (The answer: yes. Fortune has confirmed that a Verizon iPhone will be released in early 2011.)”
“That so many Americans covet Verizon iPhones –analysts estimate that Apple could sell 8 million to 9 million of them next year, compared with an estimated 22 million iPhones sold to date in the U.S. — is partly a testament to the efforts of Ivan Seidenberg, who has presided over one or another of Verizon Communications’ predecessor companies since 1995, when he became CEO of Nynex,” Ellison reports. “From that perch Seiden berg has transformed a boring, lumbering, $13-billion-a-year in sales phone company into a technology giant with $108 billion in sales last year.”
Ellison reports, “Now it is Seidenberg who is facing retirement (he will be 65 in December 2011)… Though he sounds a bit wistful about leaving Verizon just as the company is about to enter an exciting new phase, he makes clear that he has no plans to hang around after [Lowell] McAdam takes over some time in 2011. A Knicks fan — he has season tickets — and a moviegoer (he says many of his pop culture references come from the films The Godfather and A Bronx Tale) he’ll probably take in some basketball and see a flick or two. And if he wishes, it is likely he will be checking out the sports scores and movie times on his brand-new Verizon iPhone.”

I would have thought that more than 22M iPhones been sold to date in the US. 9M verizon phones would take it over 20M per quarter worldwide.
I hope they can spread it out to all carriers in the US. Not just because more phones can be sold but so that it ends the ridiculous exclusivity that the mobiles like to have. It will then level the playing field and allow true competition for service and pricing.

I’ve got news for you dip shits… Apple isn’t going to kill the iPhone with a move to Verizon or any other US carrier. Android will continue to give the iPhone real competition. Not because it’s a better phone, but because with every person that loves Apple products there’s at least 4 of them that hate Apple products and will never buy a iPhone. Android is a very viable and logical choice with an excellent product.
I used to work for Apple for 7 years and Apple fans don’t come any bigger. I recently went to work for T-Mobile ,and believe me I want T-Mobile to sell the iPhone as much as anyone, I’ve been forced to buy an Android device (in my case the G2) and I couldn’t be happier with it. While it’s not the elegance of the iPhone it’s got many excellent merits and will be tough for me to go back to my phone call dropping, bluetooth disconnecting iPhone.
The Android system, especially in it’s Google form, is very well designed and is a more capable mobile device than the iPhone! There I said it! Lookout for the flame thrower in 3, 2, 1. Multitasking is much easier and fluid than on the iPhone and I like being able to alter most of a applications preferences in it’s own app rather than going into “system settings” every time. Just a couple of reasons that I like the Android better.
Oh, and by the way. Having Flash 10.1 on my G2 hasn’t hurt the performance or caused any crashes so far. As a matter of fact I have fewer app crashes with the Android than with the iPhone. Example: Weather Bug Elite on the iPhone crashed nearly ever couple of times I opened it and it’s only crashed once on the G2.

I hear you Steve! I personally don’t like smart phones, but being a “open source” type of person, will root for Linux based Android and more user choice over their own machines vs Apple’s walled garden approach any day.
For instance the choice of plug-ins on Safari suck goat puke, there are tens of thousands for Firefox.
iTunes has only 10,000 TV/Movie rentals, Netflix has over 100,000.
Choice is good and neutrality is good.
I do like Apple’s MacBook Pro’s though! Own one myself.
