Analyst: OmniVision to supply camera for Apple’s second-gen FaceTime-capable iPad

“OmniVision (OVTI) will supply CMOS image sensors for a second-generation Apple (AAPL) iPad that will launch in the calendar first quarter of 2011, according to a brief research note yesterday from investment firm Detweiler Fenton,” Eric Savitz reports for Barron’s.

“The research firm contends the new iPad will ship with two cameras, a 5 MP camera and a VGA camera, and likely will support Apple’s FaceTime video chat software,” Savitz reports. “Detweiler says their early read is that Apple will build 2.5 million units of the next iPad in calendar Q1.”

  1. They think it will Likely support FaceTime?! What?

Like will it support Windows video chatting, samsungs, or, what for it, GOOGLES chat software! That’s it- android chat software for the iPad! I feel like a Deere in the headlights….

Do not let reason or facts get in the way….. If a front facing camera is built in- the iPad will support FaceTime! That is too apparent! Do they get paid for this?

  3. Then the third generation will have the slightly better camera.

Then the fourth generation will have the slightly better camera in front an back and support FaceTime.

Then the fifth generation will allow FaceTime over 3G.

Apple will just keep people lining up every year.

  5. Apple (okay, Steve) can’t be too happy that this leaked out just before the Christmas shopping season.

The fifth generation iPad camera will have a hologram of Princess Leia popping out saying your my only hope!

  7. The new iPad will look like the iPhone 4 – flat both sides.
    (the Curve is dead)
It will have camera for facetime, no camera on back.
Slightly faster processor, better efficiency, and more RAM.
Same screen – retina display is pointless on a larger screen.
Better battery life – look for 14-16 hours.
Some new connection port, maybe USB3.
