The app is location aware. As soon as you get to an Apple Store when you have a previously booked appointment through the app, it asks if you want to check in.
Also it allows you to add booked appointments to iCal on the phone.
I presume this is what he was referring to.

There are no choices for ‘White’ in the Capacity and Color section for the iPhone 4 in the Apple Store App, and the status is unchanged on Apple’s Store page of their website.
