Greenpeace drops Apple to 9th as HP, Samsung advance in ‘Guide to Greener Electronics’

Apple Online Store“Greenpeace in its latest Greener Electronics guide saw major shifts that most affected Apple,” Electronista reports.

“The company fell from fifth place to ninth simply by failing to advance its score beyond the earlier 4.9 score,” Electronista reports. “While Apple still earned a high score for eliminating BFRs and PVC plastic from its hardware, it was criticized for a lack of information on its policies. The company hasn’t provided enough information on how it manages chemicals, communication in the supply chain or how it plans to phase out any more toxic chemicals, Greenpeace said.”

Electronista reports, “Greenpeace continued to reserve the most criticism for console makers, dropping Microsoft to second-last after it backed away from a commitment to purge BFRs and PVCs and hasn’t provided enough information on its phase-out plans. Nintendo was still in last place for doing nothing about electronics waste and actually increasing its carbon dioxide emissions despite a promise to cut them down.”

  1. What Greenpeace doesn’t realize is Nintendo’s manufacturing byproducts are actually used to coat the tips of Japanese whale harpoons. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

    No material waste!

  3. Show us you plans. If you don’t tell us what you are going to make, we might think you are making a reactor and are intending to dump the waste in the river so we have to downgrade you.

  5. If Greenpeace’s raison d’être wasn’t to sell more memberships, garner more donations and increase the leadership’s yearly salaries, they might have some credibility.

As it is, the whores and the drug dealers on almost every Vancouver street corner have more credibility than the Greenpeace board of directors. You know what the whores and drug dealers are selling.

  7. F head in the sand idiots who refuse to acknowledge scientific reality that greatest threat to world economy BY FAR in the next couple decades is from rapid climate change and inability of societies, firms and govts to adapt to rapidly changing conditions.

Potential sea level rise of 10+ feet this century is no “scam” to ports and low lying urban and agricultural areas. It’s scientific reality that must be dealt with.

Danger of depletion of freshwater resources to permanent sub-dust-bowl levels is no “hoax” to Colorado and other parts of SW USA. It’s reality that must be faced. Only “hoax” is ideologically-motivated refusal to face reality.

Laws of physics do not give a rats arse abt your right wing ideology or abt political “center’s” worship of so called “political reality” over “reality reality.”

Green is not optional it is simply necessary to maintaining and growing a 21st century economy. 19th century industries and tech are no longer sustainable. Call it what you will, it is a necessary transition and more about maintaining prosperity / human health and economy in the face of scientific reality than it is about fuzzy notions of “earth,” “environment,” etc
