Obama will meet with Apple CEO Steve Jobs today to discuss economy, says official

Apple Online Store“President Barack Obama and Apple Inc. Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs will meet today while the president is in the San Francisco area for a political event, an administration official said,” Julianna Goldman reports for Bloomberg. “Obama and Jobs will discuss the economy and technology issues, the official said on condition of anonymity.”

“The administration official gave no specifics of the agenda for Obama’s meeting with Jobs,” Goldman reports.

“Jobs has supported Democratic candidates and organizations in the past,” Goldman reports. “He donated $50,000 to the DNC in 2000 and $26,700 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in 2006, according to Federal Election Commission records. Jobs also contributed $1,000 to former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel when Emanuel was running for the U.S. House in 2004.”

  1. We have to get manufacturing back into the U.S., from heavy industry to high tech. The U.S. economy is far too dependent on the service industry (typically low salary jobs), financial industry, and housing (how many houses can you build?), and traditional energy (coal, oil, and gas).

    The manufacturing sector was the bridge for the middle class. Without domestic manufacturing there is a big gap between the service industry jobs and the jobs that offer a decent wage.
