What to expect from Apple’s special ‘Back to the Mac’ event on Wednesday

Apple Online StoreDesinformado writes, “Apple is like the KGB, you never know what to expect, but as the event shows it’s going to be about the new Mac OS X Lion, animal, the king of the computer jungle.”

I expect from Apple tomorrow:

• A more social Address Book
• A Free Mobileme to new Mac and iOS users
• Instant wireless sync between desktop and mobile devices
• Dockable iPad with screen and keyboard
• Facetime all over the System with
• iCal Remote for easy retrieval and sync from desktop to mobile and vice versa.
• Game Center implementation on the desktop.
• New Macbook Air
• Mac Pro design change?

  1. “New MBA , with dual boot capabilities , OSX and IOS, with a touch screen when you are in IOS (iPad) mode”

1 why would you dual boot the same os (darwin/osx/ios)?

2 if you did why would the touch screen be off in osx (there is absolutely nothing on MacOS that can’t be done on a touch screen

    @Jersey_Trader

wrong os? it’s back to /Mac/ not back to windowz

  3. How about a Mac mini with a input to turn it into a DVR. I got tired and picked up a new TiVo but would rather have a working Apple cable or HDMI connection for the new Mac mini I got for under my HDTV!

I would buy another Mac mini with DVR ability and give my new one to one of my kids or grand kids. IT IS TIME APPLE! How about a A4 digital media device that works like a VRC did. Connect it and tell it when to record and how long to record. I would buy a few of those too!

  5. What is this “redesign the Mac Pro” garbage? OK … it’s one of the oldest tower designs out there and, while distinctive, isn’t all that “pretty”. It is also one of the BEST designs out there, from an engineering standpoint. My greatest complaint has always been the sharp edges on the underside of the carrying handles.
What other case includes handles making it easier to move the system around?
What other case makes it so easy to access the important parts?
What other case offers such excellent cooling options?
What other case has more storage (HDD, Optical) options?
Any ONE of these is more important than “it’s old” or “it isn’t pretty”.

  7. “I’d rather have them removing a feature. I’ve got enough of the spinning wheel of death.”

you ether need to close your web browser (those are always leaky an bugy) or go through startup disk:system:library, startup disk:library and startup disk:private and trash anything that looks unimportant (my 2006 macbook runs/boots sooo fast now :D)

  9. DLMeyer,

If you are an old-time Mac user, you have to admit that all of your bullet points apply to ‘Pro’ (‘Power’) Macs since at least ten years ago. Beginning with the original bondi-blue PowerMac G3, every single professional machine has a painfully simple latch to open the case and access everything (storage, memory, CPU, PCI slots), as well as handles for carrying it.

There is no doubt in my mind that neither Jobs, nor Johnny Ive would sacrifice any of those just for the sake of a box re-design.

  11. – Face time
    – Remote access to a Mac from iPad
    – App store for Mac
    – New iLife and iWork (with new drawing app)
    – Time Machine to idisk
    – Airplay

    Big surprise
    – iWork and Face time for Windows, hell freezes again.

  13. It is interesting how over the last few years, the rumours usually got almost everything right in anticipation of an Apple event.

Nevertheless, the event gets massive coverage everywhere, and discussion about announced products (or service) lingers on for days after the event.

You’d think any of these rumours would take the wind out of their sails; apparently, they just add more…
