Financial Times’ iPad app rings up $1.54 million in revenue since May

Apple Online Store“The Financial Times’s new iPad app has generated more than £1m [$1.54 million] in advertising revenue since it was launched in May, according to the paper’s deputy chief executive,” Mark Sweney reports for The Guardian.

“Ben Hughes, who is also the paper’s global commercial director, said more than 400,000 subscribers have signed up for the app,” Sweney reports. “He added that it now accounts for 10% of the paper’s new digital subscriptions.”

Sweney reports, “Hughes said traditional print advertising now accounts for just 40% of the FT’s overall revenue.”

  1. “new”? Launched in May? OK, they are Brits and thus more “traditional” than we Yanks … still … This is the Digital Age, guys! The only way something launched nearly half a year ago can be considered “new” is if there was a previous – thus, “old” – version.
    What am I talking about? I’m retired. Anything introduced this millennium is “new” to me. Like … OSX! Which I am STILL glad to see, and brag about to Windows sheep. Or discuss with Linux types who hate to admit that the learning curve they suffered through is part of the entry cost.

  3. These reports are good because the more examples of iPad news apps being profitable the quicker other organizations will jump on board.
