Microsoft falsely claims iPhone app maker Rovio backing Windows Phone ‘07

“Microsoft briefly got into trouble today by showing Angry Birds as an app on its Windows Phone 7 tips page,” Electronista reports.

“Rovio, the developer, told fans that the icon was not only posted without its permission but didn’t reflect its actual plans,” Electronista reports. “The app writer has ‘NOT committed to a Windows Phone 7 version’ in any way, it said.”

Electronista reports, “The company later admitted that it “mistakenly posted” the content and took it down, but promised that its Windows Phone 7 event on October 11 would say more about its app plans.”

In fact, in a recent tweet, Rovio says plainly, “We didn’t get mad, just wanted to set the record straight. And we haven’t said we wouldn’t do WP7.”
