Verizon CEO skirts iPhone questions, dismisses Windows Phone ‘07

Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam “skirted questions regarding collaboration with Apple,” Electronista reports. “The executive reiterated his previous comments that business interests of both companies will eventually align, but he ‘can’t say’ whether an iPhone will be one of the devices available for the LTE launch, according to an interview with CNET.”

“When asked about the chances of a Windows Phone 7 device arriving on Verizon’s network in the near future, McAdam’s response took a more dismissive tone while maintaining secrecy over the company’s upcoming handset offerings,” Electronista reports. “‘We like our relationship with Microsoft,’ he said. ‘But clearly in the US there are three major mobile operating systems: RIM, Google, and Apple.’ The executive went on to admit that Verizon does not see Microsoft as a major player in mobile anymore. ‘Microsoft is not at the forefront of our mind,’ he added.”

  1. Seems like something’s definitely up as far as the VZ iphone–he could’ve said “no VZ iphone” & ended the discussion..I know it’s parsing words but ‘can’t say’ means he aint allowed to say..

  2. I would love to see the video of when Steve Ballmer hears that a top Verizon executive said, “The executive went on to admit that Verizon does not see Microsoft as a major player in mobile anymore.”

So Steve Ballmer and Microsoft, who is the niche player now?

  4. If a Verizon executive “can’t say” then Apple is still calling the shots on this roll out! Is anyone watching the RIMM and droid sales dropping off yet. It would be just like when everyone saw the iPhone 4 is tanked the sale of the iPhone 3 for a few months. These other almost smart phones haven’t a chance now!

  5. It’s coming. WSJ was briefed on it and leaked it. This is the corporate way of getting news out without suffering the accusation of cutting off sales to an important retailer. It was also needed to put a hold in the market of Android sales while supplies and production are ramped up.

I’m predicting that in a year, the iPhone’s share will be more than double than it is now.

  8. You actually think this guy would say they aren’t getting the iPhone. They are getting free press for this shit. Yeah they are trying but still negotiating, which of they were smart they would just say give us the same deal as the other companies for us to have the iPhone. Plus he has to keep all those whose contact is up before the holidays from switching to AT&T to give an iPhone for the holidays. It’s typical CEO talk(bs). Unless he had a smirk on his face to give it away, its still just a rumor.
