TheStreet’s Moritz: Microsoft set to outshine Apple iPhone

Scott Moritz writes for TheStreet.com, “For the first time since its introduction in 2007, Apple’s iPhone is going to take a backseat at AT&T as Ma Bell prepares a glitzy launch of three Microsoft Windows 7 phones.”

MacDailyNews Take: We’ve covered some of Mr. Moritz’s pieces, and we do mean pieces, in the past. See if you get a feel for his general theme regarding Apple after perusing this list:

• TheStreet’s Moritz: Five things bringing Apple down – July 19, 2010
• TheStreet’s Moritz: ‘5 big blemishes for the Apple iPhone 4’ – June 24, 2010
• TheStreet’s Moritz: Apple is killing the tech sector (or some such nonsense) – June 16, 2010
• TheStreet’s Moritz: Apple will benefit from iPad’s ‘theft factor’ – March 29, 2010
• TheStreet’s Moritz: Apple’s ‘iFlop’ tablet ‘shelved’ until 2010 (with video) – May 21, 2009
• TheStreet’s Moritz foments: Apple’s unannounced tablet will flop – March 24, 2009
• TheStreet’s Moritz: Apple’s iPhone 3.0 event ‘ho hum, lacked flashy one-more-thing’ – March 18, 2009

• TheStreet’s Moritz tries to conjure up Apple iPhone ‘disappointments’ – September 10, 2007

Obviously, Mr. Moritz is a genius prognosticator.

Moritz continues, “So what does the smartphone invasion mean to Apple? Lost market share, for one. Morgan Stanley predicts that Apple will fall to fourth place from third in the smartphone operating system race in the fourth quarter due to the strength of Google Android and the arrival of Microsoft’s Windows 7.”

MacDailyNews Take: Lots of predictions, but very few facts which is, of course, par for the course in Moritzland. We’ll iCal this one and check back to see how well its predictions match Apple’s iPhone performance, especially versus Microosft Windows Phone ’07 models, when sales figures for the holiday quarter are released by each company.

  1. Right. ATT stores are so helpful with plenty of devices to provide hands on experience. And Microsoft has this huge inventory of apps awaiting Win7. An all of the iphone buyers are going to dump their iPhone and stay with T..NOT. NOT NOT. Oh yes, i can test then at the one or two MSFT retail stores. By the way, where are they? Can’t seem to find one in my town which has 3 Apple stores that are always full of customers.(Honolulu)

  3. Getting Apple news from Moritz is like getting political coverage from a former sportscaster on a very low-rated cable network that’s partially owned by an Apple imitator.

Objectionable, yes. Objective, not a chance.

  5. But ATT does not advertise the iPhone at all, Apple handles that. So technically all of the other phones that ATT sells outshine the iphone in the sense that they are advertised by the carrier.

And I can’t believe no one has brought up the Kin as an example of MS expertise in phone design and implementation.

I’m curious how this guy manages to keep his job, his predictions concerning Apple at least, are way off.
