“Wednesday morning, that excitement was evident as about 200 people lined up to be the first ones in the store at the grand opening of the new expansion at Chinook Centre,” Mario Toneguzzi reports for The Calgary Herald.
“Some even came as early as 3:30am,” Toneguzzi reports. “The doors to the mall opened at 5am and the stores opened at 8am.”
Toneguzzi reports, “Dylan Ostafie, 22, was also at the mall since 3:30 a.m. and first in line at the Apple store. ‘We randomly decided we wanted an iPhone. They’re sold out everywhere,’ he said. ‘We figured we’d just beat everyone else.’ Asked about what he thought of the new expansion, Ostafie quipped: ‘We haven’t really checked it out. We just came for the Apple store.'”

I worked in Canada on some television shows and mini-series and in Calgary and went to the Chinook Centre many times, even while it was being revamped. Calgary is a flat prairie town, gateway to the gorgeous Canadian Rockies and Banff, Lake Louise, Emerald Lake, etc.. Alberta is so beautiful and why so many “American westerns” are shot there. I did business with some Apple dealers downtown and they were very good. Now they finally get their own Apple Store. I know some of my fellow Mac friends up there will be very happy about that! I miss Calgary.

it’s amazing that people are still lining up at store openings after hundreds of stores.

I’ve done business in Alberta. Vast and beautiful. Calgary is their Denver, and more sophisticated than most Americans realize.

Peter,
Chinook is Calgary’s second Apple Store. The first one, in the north-west at Market Mall, has been open for quite a while.

Actually, Calgary is our Houston, but thanks for playing.

I’d say it’s Denver/Houston, about exactly 50/50 (in a good way).
With a little Orange County thrown in.

I meant Orange County the place, not the show — please take no offense neighbors to the north (or is that neighbours?)

@big Als
Double their Apple Store pleasure, double their fun! Calgary is not a particularly huge place so this should cover the city well. My job shooting a TV series at an old military base (Curry Base) was great, I lived 5 minutes away with zero traffic. Aaaahhh. Now I’m back in L.A.. Arrrrgh!

Two Apple stores in Calgary. Now how about just one for Kelowna? Come on Apple.

@ Peter & Als MBP:
You guys are bringing back old memories! Sigh!
Lived in Calgary for 8-1/2 years — not far from Market Mall. Loved the city and the numerous excursions to Banff, etc.
Purchased my first computer (Apple Lisa) in Alberta in ’84.
Thanks

Flames suck! Go Oil!
(note: I don’t really care who wins against the two. I just want a bloody Canadian team to win at least once this decade)
