“First Apple (AAPL) started refunding customers who had paid for expedited shipping, alerting them by e-mail that ‘Due to a delay, we may have not been able to meet our delivery commitment’ and triggering speculation about possible production problems,” Philip Elmer-DeWitt reports for Fortune.
P.E.D reports, “Then the shipping notices began appearing, along with the first hands-on review — at Fox News, of all places.”
MacDailyNews Take: Fox News’ tech reporter Clayton Morris has been on the Apple beat for some time now, P.E.D.
P.E.D reports, “But it’s not clear how many Apple TVs the company will be able to get out the door under the Sept. 30 wire. Anybody trying to order one today faces a 2-3 week shipping delay.”

MacDailyNews Take: From what we see and hear, significantly more people are interested in the new $99 Apple TV vs. the previous models.
Some people here reported that their pre ordered Apple TVs had shipped. Huge pre orders of the “hobby box” were not really expected -MDN is right.

As of yesterday, mine had journeyed from Shenzhen to Anchorage. A few more days and whoo-hoo!
This will be my first Apple TV even though I’ve been an Apple addict since the Apple ][ days.

Got my shipping notice yesterday. They are Shipping it FED EX directly from Shenzhen China, which I was surprised at. I would have expected it to at least be shipped from a sorting facility in the US, so it leads me to believe that they had production problems.

@papasmack
No production problems, this is how all Apple products are shipped. My original AppleTV shipped the same way when it was released, from Shenzen to Anchorage, etc. I’m sure that the orders have been more than expected. But that doesn’t mean that it a huge success, it just means they didn’t start making enough.

Well I’ll be buying on too. But I’ll wait till the rush dies down. I’ve been put off in the past bit the cost and utility of the apple tv. But now that the price is lower and Netflix is available it will make the perfect addition to the tv in the bedroom.

Mine is in Anchorage too and I am on the east cost (Near Philly). Originally when it shipped, it said delivery tomorrow. Now it says 10/5. Ordered it after the keynote. Not sure what happened. Says it is shipping “International Economy Distribution”.

My wife was going to get me one for my birthday, but the Apple Store employee suggested she wait until after Nov. 1. Don’t know why, but I’ll be getting mine in early November. Just have to figure out how to hook it to my TV that only has 2 HDMI ports which are already taken up by DirecTV and Blu-Ray.
