I signed up the first day to take a look at it. Haven’t been back since.

I’ve signed up for ping and used it only a little. Before iTunes 10.0.1 it was too hard to recommend anything. That’s been improved, but finding friends is still challenging. If it had some twitter or facebook integration for finding friends, it would be more worthwhile.
It’s not something I see myself using daily, but something I would check when I am in the mood for new music.

Agree with Silverhawk and think that Ping weakens what iTunes is all about.

I also signed up in the beginning, but have not yet returned.
My wife uses my iTunes account, and her taste in music is very different than mine.
When she downloads Katy Perry, I wouldn’t want that to appear on my charts.
They need to change it to include only music that you play.
Better yet, integrate it with Last.fm.

my 2 € cents:
I would like to get an automatic alert when a band from my music collection gives a concert near my hometown. I do not want to search for such info.
otherwise, i don’t want to be bothered by any social network.

Everything you publish on any social network service, you should be happy to publish on the front page of the New York Times. And since it is on the internet, it WILL be exploited in ways you never imagined (ever heard of profiling ?). If not today then in the near future.
So no, I am not using Ping or any other “social networking” service.
iTunes suffers from severe feature creep. I shudder at the overhead built in for all this garbage. From one of the best, sleekest pieces of software in its beginning it has now become bloatware with ads in your face all the time. Too much already ! At least with iTunes you can turn a lot off, but the overhead remains.

Like silver hawk, social life is not virtual.

I started using it, but unless it picks up Facebook integration, I’m not bothering with it anymore.

The question really is, is there much to talk about regarding music?
If Steve Job’s remained on Ping, I would Ping. Otherwise I haven’t used it… at least it’s better than buzz.
I believe that Ping should offer a number of free songs as an incentive to use it.

No, it’s stupid.
