“CanalMX reports on comments from an executive at Mexican carrier Telcel claiming that Apple is set to release a revised version of the iPhone 4 by the end of September to address the highly-publicized antenna issue,” Eric Slivka reports for MacRumors. “Telcel began offering the iPhone 4 in Mexico last Friday as part of a quiet expansion that saw the device also come to the Czech Republic, Greece, Poland, Portugal, and Slovakia.”

“According to Marco Quatorze, Telcel’s Director of Value Added Services, the iPhone 4 sold in Mexico will initially be the same hardware as that sold in the U.S. and elsewhere, with Apple offering a free case to address potential issues with antenna performance. But he also noted that as of September 30th, when the free case program expires, revised hardware without the reception issues will become available,” Slivka reports.

LOL, I think Telcel will be the last to know of any changes to the iPhone.
I am with you MacTony, but stranger things have happened.
Telcel does not nathing not even abut their products, I rather belive something about Apple to Michael Dell
Jobs’ note to self – route all closeout inventory of the first generation iPhone 4 to Telcel courtesy of Marco Quatorze.
Although it’s highly unlikely that Telcel has Apple insider knowledge, it should be noted that it is one of world’s largest mobile operators.
@bon:
Also, Telcel is owned by Carlos Slim, the wealthiest man on Earth.
When Bill Gates invested 150 millions in Apple stock in 1997, Carlos Slim invested 60 millions.
I’d like revised hardware without proximity sensor issues.
This story contradicts what Steve Jobs said about this issue. It’s a common issue in the industry, not a hardware flaw. If Apple solved this common issue somehow then more power to Apple!
The media is making to much noise about it, i try to recreat it in mine and all i gat was one bar less, but with an 3gs i gat 3 less in telcel service, one of the worst services
I believe it actually. Makes sense for end of free case/bumper to be release of revised hardware and hey, maybe even the white ones will appear – somebody messed up big time on the white ones
So, MDN are you going to demand that Steve exchange all the defective iP4’s for the new ones that have actually been fixed?
If not, you are truly worthless as an advocate for doing the right thing.

“When Bill Gates invested 150 millions in Apple stock in 1997, Carlos Slim invested 60 millions.”
correct, but Slim, kept his investment, and has steadily increased his!
@RZ500
telcel service, one of the worst services
I guess a lot depends where you are, in the Maya Riveria , I get great service, even at sea!! and we have a great iPhone plan to boot. They all come with unlimited data plans!
@ploogman
I tend to believe it also. The alternative is to assume that the bumper will be summarily discontinued in September with no other fix to replace it. I doubt Apple would risk doing that.
@Exchange
A “fixed” iPhone 4 would indeed create a paradoxical problem for Apple. A modified iPhone would effectively concede that the design up to that point was flawed. Cue class action lawsuits.
Apple can improve the iPhone 4 design without contradicting the statements that were made at the antennagate briefing. The only thing that will “fix” (actually mask) the meat attenuation issue identified by Jobs is eliminating weak signal situations – i.e., pump up the cell towers and/or increase the sensitivity and/or gain on the iPhone 4 antenna to overcome the attenuation.
If Apple covers the iPhone 4 antenna, then that is not contradictory. They will simply be taking the lowest risk and lowest cost approach for dealing with an antenna bridging issue that only appears to affect a small percentage of iPhone 4 users.
I will only say this once more – if you don’t like the iPhone 4, then take it back. Otherwise shut up and quit begging for a replacement.
Every radio receiving device I’ve ever owned, or used, has the same antenna issue as the iPhone. You touch the antenna, and you can f-up the “reception”. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Everybody has times when they have to reposition hands and body to help a bad signal. You see it all the time, with all kinds of phones. The question really need to move to why so many people thought this phone had addressed the issue. Mass consciousness is weird.
Uhhh … Isn’t Telcel’s Carlos Slim, also “associated” with the Mexican Cartel. Where do you thinking the funding came from????
@5andman
The funding for the Mexican drug cartels comes directly from the most lucrative drug market in the world, the United States of America. Also, we provide the majority of the arsenal by means of our right to bare arms. Carlos Slim has a monopoly in telecommunications, he has no need to fund illicit ventures.
