“The clip doesn’t provide more than was already known but confirms the front camera for ‘video calling,’ 720p playback and Android 2.2 out of the box,” Electronista reports. “A formal launch is now penned in for September 2, just ahead of the IFA show in Berlin. The device is now expected to have a seven-inch, 1024×600 display, carry both front and back cameras, and hold 16GB of internal storage.”

Electronista reports, “The company has strongly hinted at a US launch and, combined with our sighting in Australia, is now believed to be planning the same kind of worldwide launch that it had for the Galaxy S in a bid to thwart Apple before it cements its control of tablets with the iPad.

Samsung’s “Galaxy Tab” teaser video:

MacDailyNews Take: Why is the screen 7-inches? That’s probably the only way they’ll be able to claim “close to,” similar to” or even “better than” Apple iPad’s battery life.

Apple leads. The rest of the world follows at a distance.

  1. It’s not a iPad clone because it can’t run the 225,000 apps the iPad can. Still, I’m sure someone will buy one or two… ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  2. Anticipation, I think there will be 2 lines that will be longer than the one for that turd. One line will be going through the door marked “Men” and the other marked “Women”.

What do they believe people will want that for other than to say, it is not an Apple product. It will have no battery life because it isn’t a low power A4 CPU, little to no apps, will not work with 75% of the college student’s Mac laptops, … And Flash will suck the battery dry!

  3. Is Apple the only company that doesn’t throw in a ton of sound, video and animation effects into their commercials to make the product look more exciting?

Some of these commercials try to make their products look extremely high tech, which would seem to turn away consumers who are afraid of tech gadgets.

Apple’s commercials strike just the right note with consumers, a high tech product that doesn’t require any technical abilities to use.

  4. PBBBBBBT…

YES I need more… like a reason to buy it?!

You couldn’t show me more, though, cuz if you did, you’d be giving away info on why NO ONE wants it.

  5. and another thing… What’s with advertising ‘Android 2.2’ as if the average consumer even knows the difference between Android versions, or even cares for that matter.

The fact that they have to market .X releases means the OS and the device are specifically targeted at tech nerds who care about such things.

  6. I don’t get the companies that are designing these “no-man’s-land” products. Both Dell, now Samsung (and who knows who else in the near future) are putting out these mid-sized screen devices – too small to be an iPad and too large to comfortably be a phone.

I think it’s a sign of how these companies don’t really care about making products THEY want to use – just whatever they think people will buy. Dumb.

  7. @ peter j,
I agree, I’m waiting for a camera. Then it will be the tablet that I need to do all of our internet activities and video chats on.

Darn it Apple always handicaps the 1st gen!!!

I don’t mind paying Apples higher prices, but I get really hacked off when the next gen has obvious features that should have been in the first gen.

I’ve gotten more discipline as I’ve grown older, and will wait out Jobs and Co to get the hardware / software I really want. And only buy it once! (the 1st gen is always so sexy it takes alot of control)

  8. Apple iOS 4 was not ready in April so putting a camera in the IPad before one could use it makes little sense. It is FaceTime that makes front cameras so compelling, without it is just a hassle for most people. Apple will likely announce a 7 inch iPad in September with FaceTime and those wanting that feature will get it. I still think it is likely a camera add-on accessory will be available for Gen 1, 9.7 inch iPads. once iOS 4 becomes available.

  9. 7 inches is the perfect size for many people LOL. But it looks good, really nice specs that were left out on purpose by Apple on the ipad. It will sell just like the Galaxy S phones sold and are still selling Samsung is not Apple but the have a large consumer base especially worldwide. I might get one, maybe. The question that needs to be answered is outside of built in apps, google apps, and the most popular apps how will it function with Apps from the growing android market? Might have to wait until Android 3.0 update for it to function as a true tablet. 7 inch tablet is “too small” according to MDN until Apple releases its “magical” 7 inch “perfect size” tablet later this year.
