Steve Jobs email: iOS 4 update to address performance issues on iPhone 3G ‘coming soon’

Apple Online Store“A new email from Apple CEO Steve Jobs appears to confirm that the company will soon be issuing a software update to address issues with the iPhone 3G’s performance under iOS 4. Late last month, the company acknowledged that it was “looking into” user reports of the issue,” Eric Slivka reports for MacRumors.

  1. @Worse and Worser-

Your point that I took contention with is that this is “the most troublesome summer in the history of the world of Apple.” I will not respond to “any other Steve Jobs’ launch that has had more problems”. These are two different points, but apparently you see Apple and Steve Jobs as exactly the same thing. If you’ve been paying attention for the last 30+ years, you might not feel that way. Moving on …

Every company in this business faces problems, every company has bad launches, every company makes mistakes. Need I mention Microsoft, Apple, Sun, Digital, Wang, IBM, TRW, Commodore, Compaq, Dell, HP, NeXT, A Computer Company, Another Computer Company, Yet Another Computer Company, etc.

Yet some of them persevere. As Apple will, even if Steve Jobs is arrogant and stubborn.

The context I referred to is the larger context of the industry and the failures experienced by all its participants. I did not defend anybody. A “troublesome summer” is of little consequence to the broader picture, aside from the torment it brings small minds like yours. Simmer in it, I have no more to say ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” /> Good day

I always laugh at you fandroid/winblowlz people. This was, by far, the best summer Apple has ever had, with the “defective” iPhone4 being its most successful launch, Macs growing steadily and iPad’s also amazing launch

MW: “increase”, as in “The number of Apple haters tend to increase with each successful product Apple releases”

  3. Downgraded to OS3, it was like having a new phone. Awesome. Missed NOTHING that OS4 had to offer. A bit surprised. Happy for a few weeks until I went swimming with my 3G (in my swimming trunks pocket…. ) Why to swim suits have pockets?!?! Anyway, I was sad.

Went to get a new phone, walked out with the 3GS. Happy again. The ONLY differences between 3GS and 4: HD screen (absolutely no plans to watch HD movies on a 4″ screen, pahlease.) and Facetime (no desire to use that either….) Finally, 3MP camera vs 5MP. It’s a phone, not a sweet digital camera. That’s why I have my 10MP digital camera for. That’s it. All for $200 more?

Finally, getting my kid a new $99 3GS (instead of a $199 Touch). 3GS has a camera and $100 cheaper. And I can make it a phone in a year if the kid deserves it in middle school.

  4. I have a 3GS with a REALLY annoying problem. I compose an email, cluck <send> and it acts like it gets sent but with no send sound. The message is now GONE. Not sent, not in Draft folder, not in Sent folder, just gone. I searched ‘net and didn’t find this exact problem but a similar one said to quit Mail from the ‘recents’ list and that fixes it for a while but it’s unreliable – sometimes Mail stops sending (and receiving) and a Quit causes a bunch if emails to cine in and I can send for a while. If anyone can help/verify, I’d appreciate it. And yes, I’ve Googled and can’t find this exact symptom. I also installed 4.02 and same prob. Thanks. (MDN word ‘trouble’ – wow… That’s spooky)

  5. “@Anonymous Coward: Zune Tang is that you? “

No. Zune Tang had a sharp sense of humor and could write well. This guy is just an assbag.

Anyway, the fix will certainly be welcome.

  6. anonymous coward,

You don’t get it, which is becoming the norm for you.
When you do a restore after upgrading, it restores to the upgraded os not the previous one.
Seems to me you shouldn’t be giving advice or opioid on the iPhone ( as you are 0 for 2 today)

  7. @Worser and Worser

“The iP4 launch, iOS, and the rest has clearly resulted in the most troublesome summer in the history of the world of Apple.”

What? Did you fall asleep for most of the 90’s?

  8. Apple also needs to issue software updates for iTunes 9.2.1 and MobileMe Windows Control Panel 1.6.1 applet to fix problems that occurred (under Windows) which did not happen with iTunes 9.0 and MobileMe Windows Control Panel 1.5. The problems were reported numerous times in the Apple discussion forums for quite some time.

  9. Wow that was a “terse” response … Imagine how much easier it would have been to write a proper response with a physical keyboard. Apple start producing products that your customers want instead of convincing your customers to accept what you offer. I see a cliff in the iPhone’s future.

  10. Case in point with true competition the MacBook Pro is the best laptop created. It’s way too expensive but it’s still the best! My comments to iPhone are meant to open their eyes that Android is becoming the next Microsoft PC equivalent in the mobile space. Apple will loose again if they don’t start expanding their product line like they did with the iPod till the market decides the form factor that wins.

  11. I hope this update also solves the battery drain issue on older devices like the iPod Touch 2g. I leave my iPod fully charged on the desk at night and in the morning it’s completely drained. This was not the case when I ran iOs 3.x. So if iOS 4 didn’t brick my battery in the update process it must be something wrong with iOS 4. And I’m not the only person with this problem. Just look at the gigantic thread over at the Apple forums. Allot of people have this problem after updating to iOS 4 and since Apple refuse to provide a way do downgrade the device I have to thank them for making my iPod Touch almost useless.
