(That’s different from ‘unlocking,’ which allows you to use a device with a different phone carrier.) When jailbroken, the iPad becomes an actual computer in that you can tweak the interface and make modifications at the lowest levels. This is a double-edged sword: You could run unstable tools or even damage your device, although that’s highly unlikely. Remember that with your jailbroken iPad, Apple isn’t around to tell you what you can and can’t do with it–for better or for worse.”
Stern reports, “Fortunately, if you pay attention to what you’re doing, you can run the warranty-voiding process without incident–and if you change your mind later, you can return to Apple’s default, locked-down environment.”

I jailbroke my iPad soon after I bought it. It is kind of cool but not worth it for me. I had issues with 3G connectivity and the touchscreen actually became less accurate – everything was offset vertically from where I would touch. I unjailbroke it and all was well again. I’m not saying it’ll happen to everyone’s iPad, but it happened to mine so that was that. I can wait for iOS 4. Well, not really, but I will.

They didn’t even meNtion the best app of all MyWi which turns your iPad into a wifi hot spot through wifi tethering. For those of us grandfathered into the $30 unlimited data plan it makes a great alternative to verizons MyFi $60 for 5Gb plan.
I get it. I can see why someone would do this.
For me however, jailbreaking seems like adding a layer of complexity that is so nicely there. One of the reasons I love my iPad is because when I pick it up I don’t have to troubleshoot why my Bluetooth GPS isn’t showing up by using the command line. My life has enough tinkering and troubleshooting that the iPad has become my safe harbor when I don’t want to think about troubleshooting. Also, I bought the 3G model so I don’t have to have Bluetooth GPS.
Leave my iPad alone.

Waiting for my iPad and probably won’t jailbreak it. However I did jailbreak my iPod Touch just to get Bluetooth GPS working. And it worked beautifully.
I understand why Apple want to lock it down, but the lack of bluetooth flexibility is annoying. Why should I be tied down to TomToms offering for a GPS receiver, and at that price too!
