iPhone 4 sales top 1.7 million in first 3 days; Steve Jobs apologizes for not having enough supply

Invisible Shield for Apple iPhone 4!Apple today announced that it has sold over 1.7 million of its iPhone 4 through Saturday, June 26, just three days after its launch on June 24. The new iPhone 4 features FaceTime, which makes video calling as easy as one tap, and Apple’s new Retina display, the highest resolution display ever built into a phone, resulting in stunning text, images and video.

“This is the most successful product launch in Apple’s history,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, in the press release. “Even so, we apologize to those customers who were turned away because we did not have enough supply.”

iPhone 4 also features a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, HD 720p video recording, Apple’s A4 processor, a 3-axis gyro and up to 40 percent longer talk time—in a beautiful all-new design of glass and stainless steel that is the thinnest smartphone in the world.

iPhone 4 comes with iOS 4, the newest version of the world’s most advanced mobile operating system, which features Multitasking, Folders, enhanced Mail, deeper Enterprise support and Apple’s new iAd mobile advertising platform.

iPhone 4 is available in the US for a suggested retail price of US$199 for the 16GB model and $299 for the 32GB model in both Apple and AT&T’s retail and online stores, Best Buy, Radio Shack and Wal-Mart stores. iPhone 4 is also available in the UK, France, Germany and Japan and will be available in an additional 18 countries by the end of July—Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

  1. The “fandroids” are desperately latching on to anything. I guess “iPhone 4 sucks because there was a problem during the WWDC demo” was getting old, and “iPhone 4 sucks because of ATT” wasn’t cutting it either.

If Apple has sold something like two million iPhones by now, and even 10% of its customers were actually experiencing “reception issues,” that’s 200,000 customers. Most of the current iPhone 4 customers are existing iPhone owners, so they know what is normal for their location. Surprisingly (not really), most of the online “noise” is coming from people who have not even touched an iPhone 4. The actual customers are mostly silent, because everything is working just fine and they are happy.

  2. I was at the Palo Alto Store queue all night wed-thur. By the time they opened the queue was massive. Still, I didn’t buy one because I am one of millions who want WHITE. Wish we could just place our orders. I feel unincluded in the launch because I am not allowed to place my order for my White 32GB iPhone 4. Meanwhile I’m lovin’ iOS 4 on both of my 2nd Gen iPod Touch 32, my 3rd Gen iPod Touch 64 and my iPhone 3GS 32. Folders are the bomb. 48 apps in the dock plus 192 apps on every page. What a difference this makes for easy access!
