Remember when the iPhone would never make it in Japan because they were so far ahead in the smartphone market. They were using American MS for their phones to start with. Now will probably use American Android. Canadian RIM and American iPhone are what the people want. I have no problem with Japan, I just like that we are now ahead.

They rely on Windows Mobile for their OS and are wondering why they are slipping? I’m not saying Android is in any way better than iOS, but it will run on their hardware. Cost less. Offer more features. Be more reliable. Compared to Windows Mobile, that is, not iOS. Any maker of up-scale phones hoping to compete with iOS really, REALLY, needs to get on board with Android … that, or spend a huge chunk of change to develop their own OS.

Japan wasn’t ahead in smartphones, they were ahead in feature phones, to the point that people didn’t see any advantage to having a smartphone.

One thing in the Japanese mobile world that is better: no minutes. The service plans are not clogged with worries about minutes to purchase or going over on your usuage.
I’m here in Sendai for the summer, and the Japanese are extremely polite and yet opinionated people. It might be good not to cite bloodbath too often, might turn people off in droves.
And I thought these two companies only made TV’s and stuff like that. Gosh, you learn something everyday!
