“According to a highly placed source of ours, Verizon Wireless is currently testing Apple iPad devices on their network,” The Boy Genius repots.
“We have been told that the model they are testing is a CDMA-compatible device, and while our source mentioned LTE in some capacity (possibly another model), we haven’t been able to independently confirm that part of it,” BGR reports.

MacDailyNews Take: A little birdy tells us “Something big is coming soon.”
In the words of MDN:
BLOODBATH
Your “little birdie,” is ATT shafting iPhone users and Apple.
Tell us what the little birdie says NOW!!!!
Android momentum will be brought to an abrupt halt should Apple and Verizon get in bed together like this. The ATT exclusivity agreement was the best thing that ever happened to those punks at Google.
After AT&T;’s bait and switch on iPad data pricing, I’ll consider Verizon for the iPad if they make it.
Good thing I got my unlimited iPad plan when I did! Now, when I get a new iPhone I’ll get the cheaper data plan, since I barely use my iPhone for data any more.
Oh, and tethering is stupid anyway.
Hope this info did not come via Flurry. Steve is already “pissed off”. I would hate to be them if he moves beyond being pissed off. God help them.
fail. we’ll believe it when we see it. Every Analyst and bloggosphere has been saying this since the iPhone, now with the iPad
Use with up to 5 devices- 3G to WiFi. Runs my iPhone, iPad & Mac Book well where AT&T;has Edge.
A Verizon iPad at this point would be a sharp stick in the eye to us early adopters.
You can feel the intensity in this latest batch of rumors.
Some, all, or none of them may be true, but I agree, something big HAS to be coming!!!
I can’t wait for WWDC!
Boy Genius just flunked.
Wow, I bet the rumors are true this time. There’s only been Verizon running the iPhone rumors since 2007. Now, they just insert iPad.
If the verizon iPhone is ever announced, tiered data pricing will follow right along with it.
Listen to Steve at D8. He talks about when hey build they build to world standards like GSM. CDMA is not a world standard, LTE yes is the next thing but it’s full world wide standard is not yet set. Sorry the only way you’ll see the ipad or iPhone on Verizon is with a mifi.
This makes a lot more sense to me. Verizon can supply a wireless data link for the iPad without encountering some of the issues that it would face with the iPhone.
In my opinion, this would be a good thing for Apple and U.S. consumers.
Would it shock me to learn that there have been Verizon-compatible prototypes of every Apple mobile product? No.
Do I reasonably expect that Apple will be shipping any Verizon compatible products before that company’s LTE roll-out. HELL NO!
I give this some credence considering that AT&T;just changed the terms of their iPhone data contracts. It sounds like preparation against a new competitor.
I wish Apple would just make a AirPort 3G/4G Mobile device with a swap out card / module to work with what ever wireless crap service is offered at that time in that part of the planet! Plug it into your car and tether all the WiFi devices in your car. DONE!
What if the iPad already has CDMA and is just waiting for iPhone OS 4 to switch it on? If it does, why limit it to Verizon? I was tethering Sprint PCS phones to an iBook in 2004. Sprint can do this.
A Verizon manager told me that they’ve included Apple employees on the business discounts list. Usually means that they have become business partners in some way…
Here we go again! Another 3 years of the iPad coming to Verizon.
THERE WILL BE NO CDMA
@Lurker
That’s right, people have done everything dissecting the components in the iPad including x-ray the A4 chip, BUT I’m sure they have a CDMA chip hidden in there…….. I know, Steve developed an invisible ray gun and made it invisible. Seriously?!?!
Most of the world is GSM. Well, Most of the world with disposable income to actually afford the Iphone and now Ipad. Why spend R&D;on a aging technology like CDMA? Apple alway pushes the envelope forward. CDMA anything is not forward. Sorry, No CDMA in any Apple Product.
