“Trip Chowdhry, an analyst with tiny Global Equities Research, contends that 7 minutes of the June 7 keynote by Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been blocked off for a presentation by Microsoft to talk about Visual Studio 2010, the company’s suite of development tools,” Eric Savitz reports for Barron’s.
“Chowdhry says the new version of VS will allow developers to write native applications for the iPhone, iPad and Mac OS,” Savitz reports. “And here’s the kicker: he thinks Microsoft’s presentation could be given by none other than Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.”

MacDailyNews Take: Yet another brilliant move by Jobs: Make Ballmer look as competent as possible (we know, difficult task, to say the least) in order to assuage MSFT shareholders and keep Monkey Boy “running” the Microsoft circus for as long as possible, all while dropping another bomb Adobe.

Yipes, my stomach just flipped a little bit. How does this not contradict Apple’s stance that they don’t want third party development suites clouding the purity of their native development suite? Anyhoo, I agree with a prior poster: it does feel like April 1st.
Seems plausible. As a software dev I’d use it at for work. At home I’d use Xcode as it’s free. That the deal though, .Net version would have to be free. Why would MicroSh*te do that….

I said weeks ago that MS and Apple were being surprisingly nice to each other. They both pulled their ads making fun of the other company. MS has said nothing negative about Apple lately. And, MS has actually sided with Apple on a few issues against Google in the past month or two. I would not be surprised to see Bing show up as the default search engine on Apple products this summer.
With a massive war against Google on the horizon, Jobs needs to line up allies and MS is a great place to start. Plus, if MS fanboys view Apple as an ally, then as Windows fades away they will be more likely to migrate to Apple.
Great strategy Steve. Of course, making Ballmer look like MS’s go-to guy in the eyes of MS shareholders is a pretty good strategy also.

Visual Studio is a pretty nice tool – one of the best dev tools out there. It would be awesome if this were ported to Mac OS X.

If Microsoft wants to sell Visual Studio 2010, the last thing they need to is have Ballmer do the presentation.
After watching him demonstrate HP’s Slate, I firmly believe that Ballmer could not even sell used cars.
I can see MS on stage for Bing related stuff and new mapping. No way on the visual studio bit, total misdirect.
The problem with .NET or silverlight is the same problem as flash. You give platform control to someone else. if 20% of the apps are written with silverlight, then you are beholden to MSs development schedule to implement new features in the run time.
Same applies if Visual Studio does native code and not some runtime thing. If a good percentage of your developers are using VS, then you are dependent on MS to keep VS up to date. Why wouldn’t Apple just release an XCode version for Windows if they want to enable Windows iPhone development?
