Can Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ WWDC 2010 keynote address still wow after iPhone leaks?

invisibleSHIELD case for iPad“Two or three times a year, Steven P. Jobs, Apple’s chief executive, dons his classic black turtleneck, blue jeans and grey New Balance sneakers, and presents new or updated products that start with an i,” Nick Bilton reports for The New York Times.

“According to a Monday press release from Apple, Mr. Jobs plans to stick with the same tradition on June 7, delivering the keynote address at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco,” Bilton reports. “But this year, some of the secrets have already been revealed and it’s going to be interesting to see how Mr. Jobs can still wow his audience when many images and specifications of what is believed to be the next generation iPhone have already surfaced online.”

Bilton reports, “From all the leaks, we anticipate the next iPhone will have better reception because of its glass back, a higher resolution camera and possibly a flash, a front-facing camera that will presumably be used for video conferencing on the phone and longer battery life. What’s left to talk about?”

Bilton reports, “Judging from Mr. Jobs’s e-mail exchanges with the public, however, he doesn’t seem worried… Mr. Jobs response to questions about Android and the Apple developer’s conference: ‘You won’t be disappointed.'”

  1. None of the leaks, none of the reports, none of the drama, and all of the free PR has been carefully planned by master Jobs.

He’s fully prepared to deliver the rest of the story at WWDC. Just plan to get in line on the release date – all the rest is noise.

  2. “Honestly, I don’t see where all of Apple’s secrecy helps their launches that much. The main point of it is to keep their ideas and innovation out of the hands of competitors for as long as possible.”

Really? Do you have any idea what kinds of hundreds of millions of dollars in free advertising they get (like this friggin’ website)??

You don’t think having like 100,000 people tuning into their Liveblogged events and then telling everyone about it… all because THEY CAN”T WAIT TO FIND OUT WHAT STEVE’S GONNA SAY?

Ah, you were being sarcastic, right?

  3. You recall that Apple manufactures more than just iPhones, iPods, and iPads, don’t you?

Speaking solely for myself, i will be VERY disappointed if the Mac or AppleTV or Mac software platforms do not see compelling updates.

  4. As for what Mr. Jobs says on the 7th, I don’t know what wow factor he will bring, but he will bring something everyone has missed. I don’t think he has to wow is at all. After all he’s bringing yet another iPhone to the playing feild. So ask yourself this, are any of his products a true dissapointment? I think it would be great to see the Apple stock breach Microflop durring the anouncment. We only have a 7 bil gap to close at this point. That would be wow enough for me.

  5. @Mike – I know iPods are usually unveiled in September, but one can hope for a really special ‘Oh, and one more thing’ from Steve.

As for the Apple TV, I’ve unplugged mine since I got a WDTV.

  6. His Steveness is going to have a bit of fun over the leaks, and then blow everybody away. I recall him making up a website called “Steve’s Super Apple Secrets” or some such a few keynotes ago, so he does have a bit of humor about these sorts of things.

  7. “”Two or three times a year, Steven P. Jobs, Apple’s chief executive, dons his classic black turtleneck, blue jeans and grey New Balance sneakers”

Really? I kinda imagined Steve more like a Simpson’s character who always wore the same thing day after day, no matter what.

I would love to know what triggered this fashion of his. Is it all just for good luck like a lucky rabbits foot, or is it so we don’t forget who he is when he walks on stage? Leukophobia?

  8. Surely it’s Apple’s implementation of video conferencing on the iPhone that is going to be the impressive new ‘big thing’ in 4.0 that we’ve yet to see.

I also wonder if this means there’ll be iChat on Windows? Because Apple wouldn’t want to limit video conferencing to iPhones, or iPhones and Macs, makes sense to support Windows too as per iTunes.

  9. Even though certain aspects of the iPhone 4 has been leaked, interest will even be greater as everyone will be betting on how close the final product will resemble the leaked one. That’s the vow factor that Apple will always hold sway over expectations.

  10. Back-toSchool Mac promotions are way early this year. I’m not sure when they end, but perhaps this was done to allow an iPod touch to be announced earlier as well, which may also have a front-facing camera for video-conferencing over WiFi.

    It could happen! ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

  11. WWDC 2009 was disappointing to say the least….NOTHING surprising.

Hope iPhone 4 will shock us with a different Casing. and realizing Gizmodo’s new iphone is just a tag on show, maybe thats why Steve is so calm with a backup plan in his pocket.
