Analysts claim no Verizon iPhone at WWDC; expect it to debut later in 2010 or early next year

invisibleSHIELD case for iPad“Analysts familiar with Apple’s iPhone supply and manufacturing partners say a CDMA version of the phone is scheduled for a modest production this year. This has caused a great deal of speculation around just which CDMA carrier would be getting the iPhone, especially since Verizon is a CDMA shop,” Scott Moritz reports for TheStreet.

“But while a Verizon iPhone seems inevitable, observers say it is highly unlikely that Apple would undercut its partner AT&T during the new iPhone showcase event June 7,” Moritz reports. “That moment may come later this year.”

Moritz reports, “‘It looks like Apple is planning to have full carrier support by fall,’ says Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar, who has surveyed Apple’s supply chain partners. But Kumar says a Verizon iPhone is more likely to debut in 2011… JPMorgan analyst Rod Hall isn’t expecting to hear a peep about it during the June 7 Apple developers’ conference. He writes, ‘I consider it much more likely that news will come sometime in third quarter.'”

MacDailyNews Take: So, are they trying to unfreeze Verizon’s fake iPhone market and/or do they have access to actual information and/or something else? After all, they’re sooo good at predicting Apple’s unit sales, revenue, and EPS each quarter, that they should easily be able to predict the arrival of the Verizon iPhone, right? Surely Steve Jobs invites random analysts to sit in on most, if not all, of his negotiations with Verizon, right? Take everything analysts claim with at least a grain of salt and an ounce of cynicism and call us in the morning.

  1. My prediction remains as it has for a couple of years now. Early next year, analysts will be predicting a Verizon iPhone to be announced at WWDC in June/July. Then, analysts will be predicting a Verizon iPhone by the end of the year or early next year. And the cycle continues until 4G is ubiquitous.

  2. I think Apple is waiting to get the NC mega data center up and running, along with whatever new capacity, services, and capabilities it will provide, before potentially doubling the iPhone’s U.S. customer base by producing a “Verizon” iPhone. The iPhone experience still has no equal. Apple does not consider a current Android or Blackberry phone sale (cause by the ATT exclusivity) a lost iPhone sale; it’s just a delayed iPhone sale.

Apple’s mobile phone competitors fear the day when Verizon does get an iPhone to sell.

  3. Verizon, as #1, still thinks it can brand and control all the devices on its network. Just thinking that Apple might decide to slap them one by introducing a CDMA iphone… on SPRINT. Sprint would jump for it in a heartbeat… and it would take much less in concessions to renegotiate that with AT&T;.

I’d really like to see Verizon though… would really like to see how great their network really is when dealing with iphone levels of data.

  4. Sorry, I’m a newbie apple fan (writing this on iPad) but regarding a dumbed-down iPhone for verizon or anyone else, does anyone think the old iPhone 3, which someone mentioned in another post as now being unavailable, would be adapted & used for that? If they are generally passé, and there are stocks left over, the two options I can see are: people will use them as iPods, or apple can leverage them as a “gateway drug” to the full on iPhone 4. Once the delayed-adoption customer gets one, they will quickly fall in love & want more.

That’s what happened to me. I loved my iPod touch so naturally I bought an iPhone. Then I had to have a MacBook. Then I had to have this iPad. Now I have to have the iPhone 4, and I just bought a Mac mini to use as an entertainment system in the house. I’m a happy girl.

Hope my question does not irritate. Sincerely asked.
