“A new support document posted today outlining the ports and connectors included on Apple’s updated MacBook confirms that the new model supports transmission of both audio and video via its Mini DisplayPort output,” Eric Slivka reports for MacRumors.
“The feature allows users to run a single cable (when using a compatible Mini DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter) from their computer to their home theater system or television,” Slivka reports. “According to a footnote regarding the HDMI compatibility, users should be sure to use a VESA-compliant adapter to enable the full capabilities.”

During my last trip to the Apple store, I was told that such an adaptor wasn’t yet available. Does anyone know of one?
Monoprice.com
Monoprice.com’s adapters don’t support audio.
I have both the Monoprice adapter and an adapter I purchased at Fry’s. The Monoprice adapter does NOT support audio. It says so right on their product page. However, the Fry’s adapter works great.

This one listed on Amazon does however:
“Value Pack – PTC Premium FULLY SHIELDED Mini DisplayPort to HDMI w/6ft Dual Tone HDMI Gold Series Cable for All Macbook, Pro, Air with Mini DisplayPort interface”
Also the Kanex Adapter, I bought it for my MBP 2009, it works well with my Plasma TV.
Kanex iAdapt 51 MDP to HDMI w/ 5.1 Channel Digital Audio

That adapter is for use with macs with mini display ports that DONT support audio.
Griffin also makes one that does support audio over mini dp. It’s interesting in that it is also a MiniDP to DVI adapter as well.
