“Foxconn will ship 4.5 million units in the first half and 19.5 million units for the rest of 2010. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 4G on June 7, 2010 during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference,” Teng reports. “The new device will adopt IPS (in-plane switching) panels with FFS (fringe-field switching) technology and a 960×640 resolution, Kuo said, noting that LG Display and Prime View International are the panel suppliers.”
Teng reports, “The sharper resolution further widens the gap with Android-based smartphones, which provide 854×480 displays as the highest resolution offerings. The iPhone 4G will run on the Arm Cortex A8 processor… 512MB [of RAM]… [and a 33% thinner touch panel will allow for] more space for larger [and longer lasting] battery modules.”

I thought the stolen prototype iPhone showed that the processor was an Apple A4. How much credence should we give this report then?

The Apple A4 is based upon the Arm Cortex A8 processor.
A 2:1 aspect ratio versus the current iPone at 1.5:1 would be a surprise. Not sure what that would look like but it would certainly make it longer. (Or these specs are wrong)
Prototypes are prototypes! They test all sorts of potential components.
And, as noted, the A4 is probably a SOC based upon an A8.
As for the 2:1 aspect ratio, what are you smoking? 960×640, is 3:2, just like the original. It’s just pixel-doubled, which makes 2x original apps a perfect fit with no black border as you get on the iPad.

Yes I know the A4 is based on the ARM A8, however in the prototype that was disassembled, the CPU was stamped Apple A4. This was headlined in many of the articles that showed the leaked iPhone 4 pictures.
The current display is 480×320 for 1.5:1 and 163 ppi.
IF they keep the same screen size (very likely) a 960×640 display will be 1.5:1 still but increase the resolution to 326 ppi.
Since the average person’s visual accuity is approximately 300ppi at typically reading distances, this would push the resolution just beyond the boundary of what the average person can see clearly.
I doubt Apple will push the resolution that far. They might, but I doubt it. Personally, I wish they would. However, I doubt they will.

How about priority for those of us limping along on 2 year old iPhones? Let us get a crack at the new stuff…
i let a prototype phone out in the wild and people freak. competitors begin to work their spec magic to copy or surpass. Then I release the actual phone on stage and my competitors are spent shaking their heads as to why their plan phones are already obsolete.
