Not sure if anyone [..] has noticed this same thing, but my Upgrade Eligibility date on my AT&T account switched from 11/21 to 6/21 in the last day or so. I bought a 3GS on launch day last year, and my upgrade date read 11/21 since then. A few other folks in my office have noticed the same changes happening to their accounts as well.
“Upgrade eligibility jumping from November 21st to June 21st, eh? You know what happens in June? …We’ve since confirmed that this isn’t an isolated incident, but it’s definitely not showing up for everyone,” Kumparak reports. “AT&T could be rolling this out across their database slowly. Another possibility: they may not have intended for anyone to see this yet, and just borked the query for a handful of people. AT&T offered up early upgrade paths for long-time iPhone owners with both the 3G and the 3GS.”

Of course, AT&T probably has us tagged: “Marks. Never Upgrade Eligibility. Will Pay Full Price No Matter What” since we’ve gotten every new iPhone with the first hour of their release. They may not know how to erect a 3G cell tower, but we’re positive they’ve got the billing system down pat.
I also got the 3GS within a couple of weeks after launch and my update eligibility says Feb 2011. Lame.
Mine has been changed to 6/20/10. Less than a year after I purchased my 3GS
It could also mean that Verizon will be getting the iPhone in the fall, and AT&T;just wants to lock in everyone that it can, before the cat is out of the bag.
Must be they want to hook you for 2 more years before verizon announces their iPhone availability.
Sounds like someone wants to get you on a new 2-year contract, and quick!

Their site says, “As a valued AT&T;customer, we can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade at a higher price, along with a 2-year commitment and an $18 upgrade fee. Please proceed with the online upgrade process for pricing details. You may qualify for a full discount on a standard iPhone upgrade on 06/20/2010”

I bought my 3GS on launch day and my eligibility date has been changed to 6/20/10.
I will NEVER upgrade my original day 1 iPhone, as long as sucktacular AT&T;is the only carrier. Bring on Verizon and the iPhone 4G!!!

OMG! I just checked and I too got my 3GS on launch date. Look at what it says, “You can take advantage of our no commitment pricing. Our records indicate that you will be eligible for an upgrade at a discounted price on 06/20/2010 “
Dont care if Verizon ever gets the IPhone I would still stick with AT&T;. Why would I go backwards in customer service. They sealed that deal when they raised their early termination fee.
I have 3 iPhones on my family plan. They changed the main line to 6/24/10, but all of the others still say 9/24/10. Anyone want to tell me how that makes sense?
To qualify without hassle, have a plan that’s $89 or higher, and always pay on time.

I picked up my 3G S day one, early…early…in the morning. My plan says I can upgrade in June.
Bought 3GS on launch day. Upgrade date still 11/20/2010.
I have several phones in a family plan, and some are now eligible on 6/20, one is eligible on 6/24 and two others next year. Two of our phones were upgraded to 3GS last year, themselves early adopter discounts. My guess is there is some complicated, convoluted approach to reconciling revenue recognition, subscriptions, discounts, offset against the goal of locking people in ahead of any Verizon rollout, if any.
Sounds a little like they want the people who are definately going to get an iphone to get it on at&t;not wait for the cheaper upgrade price then during that wait go to verizon for the iphone
What the funk and wagnalls! Mine is still 11/20/2010 (iPhone 3GS purchased on first day available). Hopefully, this will be rolled back to 6/20 in the coming weeks.
Regardless, will upgrade mine and my wife’s 1G iPhone on the first day the new iPhone is available.
Mine doesn’t even give me a date it just says i can upgrade to a 3GS to a 3GS for the upgrade price ($199) .. weird. Maybe because I’m a premier member?

This is the best evidence yet that the iPhone is going to Verizon and other carriers… When the 3GS came out… AT&T;held me to my upgrade date of October ’09… so I didn’t bother to upgrade. This time around they are obviously moving the everyone’s upgrade dates up to lock them in before they switch to a new carrier!
