Steve Jobs has to be smiling: Scribd tells HTML5 switch story, blasts Adobe Flash in the process

Scribd has posed a cute cartoon strip that very nicely, and quite devastatingly for lazy ingrate Adobe, explains to their users why they dumped the closed and proprietary plug-in-based Flash for the open and plug-in free HTML5 standard:

  1. @DLMyer, At least get your facts straight!

Republicans were not in control for eight years. After the 2006 mid-term elections, Democrats took over Congress (both Houses), you know, where appropriations (spend money) is legislated!

    Care to compare spending from 2001 – 2006 Republican and 2006 – 2010 Democrat?

  2. @ Pockettrash, et al.

Despite the Fascist ramblings of 2010/2012, Steve Jobs has been quoted as saying he does not care what the AAPL stock price is. Apple does what it does, and the stock price follows. Slowly but surely Wall St. has come to recognize and reward what Apple does; despite the streets routine lapses into herd stupidity, like this week.

  3. Ah, you stupid hysterical, lying reality-distorting, short-term memory, tea party rightwingers drive me crazy. Now that Obama’s president you’re all suddenly brilliant economists and political strategists. Pathetic.

  4. How about comparing government spending as a percentage of GNP over the last… say 50-60 years… then let’s see which party actually spends the most taxpayers hard earned money.

You might even surprise yourself if you actually too a unbiased look at the numbers.

  5. @Earthling

circa 2001 a republican would have ranted:
Ah, you stupid hysterical, lying reality-distorting, short-term memory,left-twingers drive me crazy. Now that Bush’s president you’re all suddenly brilliant economists and political strategists. Pathetic.

can you left wing people stop pretending that it’s only the right wing. it really is getting old, and proves that you have really short memories too.

great quote, it says it all. i’ve always enjoyed your level-headed and concise posts. also, thanks for the reference to “intellectuals and society” by Sowell. it’s on my must read list.

  8. @blucaso

Not to disagree with you, but: “Wow… some people just never get past the playground and learn to think for themselves.”

I’ve noticed that whenever anyone–ANYone–complains about people “not thinking for themselves,” what they really mean is, “They don’t think like me enough.”

  9. zek – sadly – probably never. There is a perceived power in group mentality – “groupthink” in it’s Orwellianist” sense.

Amazingly prevalent in politics – surprisingly prevalent in a group that vows to “think different.”

  10. @ Scot Murphy

Unfortunately, you would generally be right. However, in this particular instance I have no desire for anyone to think more like me. I just wish they would think, instead of parroting Glenn Beck or Keith Olberman or whomever. As “cb” says above – groupthink. I know it’s genetically embedded, I understand how and why it happens and works, but it still disappoints me to see it in practice.

More accurate in this case would be to say that while I complain about people “not thinking for themselves”, what I really mean is “I’m pissed that I can’t find a way to harness their herdlike mentality to make me rich!”.

    @Ampar – Glad I wasn’t drinking milk or soda when I saw your comment on ron. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”raspberry” style=”border:0;” />

Continue on, kids. The playground’s open late today.

  11. Jeeesss, some of you guys are very good. A story on HTML5 turns into a political diatribe. This is not an exclusive US site guys, the rest of the world comes here for a look see, FOR Mac NEWS not political comment. Shut up!!!!

  12. @blucaso – you and I seem to be largely on the same page. With seemingly few exceptions, politicians eventually end up peddling influence for money, even if they don’t start out that way. Compromise usually costs us twice – once for the bill and the second time to buy the votes necessary to make it a law.

I am still trying to stick to my commitment not to respond to people like First 2010, but it is very difficult sometimes…

  13. HTML5 is being developed as the next major revision of HTML (HyperText Markup Language), the core markup language of the World Wide Web. HTML5 is the proposed next standard for HTML 4.01, XHTML 1.0 and DOM Level 2 HTML. It aims to reduce the need for proprietary plug-in-based rich internet application (RIA) technologies such as Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, and Sun JavaFX.

  14. I stopped reading when the morons brought the politics into this again. No further comment- don’t care for it. Yes, there are other sites and forums. Go there.

  15. My favourite quote is from Ambrose Bierce (if you do not know who he is, then look him up):

“Politics: A strife of interests masquerading as a contest of principles. The conduct of public affairs for private advantage.”

I have come to belive that anyonoe who goes into politics and allows themselves to be “absorbed” into the “system” is in politics to fulfill their personal agenda. No matter the party
