Since I use Photoshop I have no need for Pixelmator but it does look like a great app.
Particularly like the ‘send to Apple Mail’ feature. Adobe does not add features such as this because they want the the CS suite to be identical on both platforms. Lowest common denominator and all. Just like Jobs said.

This is a move Adobe would never understand. Drop outdated technologies to make the application faster, more efficient, and more reliable? That’s absurd! Good job, Pixelmator.
I moved from Adobe to Pixelmator about 2 years ago and am the happier for it. It doesn’t take 3 hours to launch, upgrades are cheaper, support is better, and it does everything I need. I’ve pushed it on all my Mac friends/family.
now that im just about done with college i was gonna get into photoshop as a hobby always wanted to learn that but i think i might look into this and hey i have been meaning to buy snow leapord just havent gotten around to it but ima def get it now see what this pixelmator is all about i like thier price better then adobes lol
I bought Pixelmator back when it first came out and have never regretted the purchase. As a point of reference, I also own the latest version of PSE and rarely ever touch it. Unless you know you absolutely NEED Photoshop, Pixelmator is probably all you will need.
Finally, the app is regularly updated and all have been free. The $ spent on this app are some of the best I have ever spent on SW.

I have Pixelmator but its several years since I used it. It was better than Elements then because it had curves but lacked a bit in other areas.
CS4 is the end of the line. I will not be ripped off any longer. I shall try the free SL version of Pixelmator and probably buy it . My Elements 3 is creaking and takes too long to start.
Just brought it and start learning it. Looks like a great App.

Pixelmator is a great application, but it is in it’s infancy…
I like these guys. I hope Apple helps them so their product becomes better than Adobe. The less Apple and Mac users are dependent on Adobe, the better.
I own a license for Pixelmator and would recommend it to anybody. What takes me hours just figuring out in Photoshop takes me minutes to _do_ in Pixelmator. Great platform-leveraging app, very easy to use, and great user experience.
Have been using Pixelmator almost daily for more than a year to produce all our corporate graphics work. While it’s got some quirks, for $59.00 it’s a very capable app.
I look forward to further improvements. Keep up the good work Pixeldudes!
Pixelmator (still a terrible name) is a very good program, but let’s not get carried away with the comparisons to Photoshop, which is still (for better or worse) the 800 lb. gorilla of image editing apps. Pixelmator cannot compete with Photoshop, period. But most people don’t need the power of Photoshop, which should also not be confused with Photoshop’s little brother, Photoshop Elements. Although Adobe interface design sucks big time, it isn’t fair to characterize Photoshop as hard to use. For such a powerful program, Photoshop is actually quite easy to use for the basics. It’s just overkill for the average user as well as very expensive.
I have CS4 DP and holding off upgrading to CS5 until maybe end of this year. For me, the only reason to upgrade is Photoshop CS5s new features but it continues down the path of bloatware. each upgrade slows my machine and surely feels like it’s just a port from the windows version. I will continue to support pixelmator in hope that it improves to at least do half of what PS can do.
I tried Pixelmator 1.3 and thought it was a very good start. The UI seemed inconsistent in many places but I’d be interested to try it again.

What’s not to like? Pixelmator seems to be the perfect name.
So, I’m not sure I understand this. Is this an upgrade from 1.5.1? Is it available? I’ve been using using Pixelmator for a couple of years and the version I’m running is 1.5.1. The current download from their website is 1.5.1.
In other words, how can I benefit from this announcement?
I just got a sonly Alpha a550 , and within a week apple released an iPhoto update supporting image imports.
I was considering photoshop, but the price was staying my hand, and now, i think i’ll buy pixelmator

If Pixelmator is the state of the art Photo Editor for the Mac – I must conclude that I need my old Windows PC back. Pixelmator is not nearly as powerful as Paintshop Pro from 5 years ago!
This should not be!!! I have a nice 24 inch Imac and unfortunately I have yet to find a reasonably priced, fast, photo editor with the features that were available five years ago.
Oh how I wish someone would introduce a clone of Paintshop pro for the Mac.
Come on Pixelmator, how about studying Paint Shop Pro and creating a real photo editor for the Mac.
