“VHA will offer the 3G and Wi-Fi iPad to Vodafone and 3 Mobile customers with a range of dedicated price plans for all models of the touchscreen tablet. But the telco is keeping mum on what the actual price plans will entail or whether they will be available in post or pre-paid options,” Bingemann reports. “Telstra has also said it will offer dedicated iPad price plans but it is unclear if the telco will have all versions of the device for sale. Optus will offer plans for 3G-enabled iPad models.”
Bingemann reports, “The iPad was scheduled to hit local shores at the end of this month but Apple has been forced to delay its arrival due to the overwhelming demand for the device in the US.”

It’s interesting we haven’t heard a peep from the GREEDY Canadian telcos. Doesn’t surprise me. These were the same one(s) that when the first iPhone (2G) was launched (not in Canada that first year) and you brought one in from the US – it was going to cost you $295 /month for data and cell services (see following article: http://bit.ly/cXiPLr). It took a year and Apple to knock that down under $100, but it’s still too outrageously expensive in Canada. Don’t come here for good deals. Dollar at par or not. -RC

I reckon they will sell the iPad through any outlet that currently sells iPods. That means Apple Stores, resellers, the big chains, phone outlets, duty free stores and even OfficeWorks.
Have you noticed how OfficeWorks doesn’t sell any Apple computers yet sells peripherals like the Apple Keyboards and the Magic Mouse? What gives? (for non-Aussies, OfficeWorks is a stationery chain much like Staples).
I can’t wait to get my hands on a 3G 64GB iPad!

Officeworks should stay away from Macs. I think Apple is doing the right think there. It would be devaluing the brand and I can’t imagine very good support.
And have you noticed how in Myer, David Jones and JB Hifi they display the Apple products on polished pine tables while the PCs are always displayed separately on junk?

PS noticed last trip back to Oz that JBHiFi are selectively pushing Apple products.. and that the floor-staff are very knowledgeable on all things Jobsian. (Only you couldn’t buy a network-unlocked iPhone there, you have to go to the Apple Store.)

You have no idea what greed means until you experienced an Ozstralian telco. My cable internet plan (which is pathetically slow by international standards)costs $AUS72 per month and I’m limited to 20/40 gigs for that period. OUCH!
On a personal iPad note I’ll be delaying my purchase until multi-tasking is available. I need this for presentations, some w/p and email. The thought of being limited to one app at a time is something I really don’t want to return to. I’ll wait for the next model.

With the exception of telcos, I personally only ever buy Apple products from Apple stores or specialist Apple resellers.

The current model of the iPad will be getting multi-tasking free with the coming of iPhone OS 4 for iPad this fall (before December 21st).
Yeah I figured that out when the new iPhone OS was announced. To be honest at that time of the year the last thing I’m thinking about is work or work related expenses.
During December I’ll be planning our annual trek up to the Gold Coast for a month of sun and (small) surf. Next year is a different matter. I’ve also have to make sure that my boss has ordered enough projectors so I can connect the iPad to one of them.
The 250MB a month plan for the 3G version is perfect for the Oz. That’s almost unlimited for them. ;-p
