After “Craig’s Spanish Word of the Day,” Apple Genius Betty White stops by CBS’ Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson to chat about iPad:

MacDailyNews Take: The fact that they bothered to carefully cover the Apple logo (that everybody knows is there, logo tapers!) when Betty’s bit includes an Apple-logoed (however backwards and unbitten it may be) shirt is either just plain silly. What do you think, intentional or unintentional joke?

Betty White rulz!

BTW: The iPad wannabes will get the same type of treatment on the first Tuesday after never.

  1. I’d agree with Atferli about the logo, but I think it may also have to do with the light from the logo causing issues with the camera’s ability to balance the scene lighting. If it were glaring at the camera the camera would automatically change the lighting to compensate and the scene would keep changing as it picked up/didn’t pick up the light. It’s just easier to cover it and not worry about it. If they wanted to hide the fact that it is an Apple device, they wouldn’t be talking about it to begin with.

  2. …”If it were glaring at the camera the camera would automatically change the lighting to compensate and the scene would keep changing”…

You are confusing amateur, consumer camcorders with professional studio cameras. They don’t normally do automatic exposure/gain (cameraman does adjustments manually when necessary).

This is strictly for legal reasons. Anyone can mention product name, but product placement always requires a clearance and an agreement, even if no money changes ‘hands’. Apple often does NOT pay for product placement, and in this case, the producers most likely didn’t have time to get the necessary release documents signed by Apple legal in time. Hence, taped over logo on the device and approximated flip image of the logo on the t-shirt.

  3. Well done Betty. Hilarious! It’ll be a real loss when she goes (hopefully not soon). Could you imagine trying to center that piece around the Kindle or Nook? No chance. Coolness just is, it can’t be copied. Just ask Microsh*t….

  4. @Mike T and Pedrag:
Mike, as Pedrag says, shows of this production calibre don’t have the cameras running in any sort of automatic mode, although that would be funny if painful to watch. And Pedrag, the adjustments are done live by a separate colorist sitting at a console like me. We had about 7 guys doing over 50 cameras for the Olympics Opening Ceremonies, for example. I wonder if there’s an App for that…

  5. Is anyone going to correct the dufuses who think George’s last name is Stromboulopolis??? It’s Stephanopoulos, for goodness sakes! That being said, Betty White has always ruled! I can’t wait to see her host SNL!

  6. No, BBWrmHeart, I’ve worked on ‘The Hour’ on CBC, and his name is definitely George Stroumboulopoulos. George Stephanopoulos is an ABC News political correspondent. Both talk to people for a living, though, I’ll give you that.

  7. MacAngus, I stand corrected….I should have googled him before I got on my high horse. Who knew there were 2 TV guys named George St_____opoulos?? lol ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”rolleyes” style=”border:0;” />
