“Verizon cellphone customers on Wednesday reported a seemingly US-wide data outage,” Electronista reports.
“The issue affects both conventional data for all devices as well as messaging services like BlackBerry e-mail and MMS,” Electronista reports. “Service problems don’t appear to be region-specific and have been intermittent, with some already being back to normal while others have lost service a second time or have only gotten back certain features.”
Electronista reports, “Verizon hasn’t provided a public response, but those who have contacted the carrier were told there was no estimated time for when data would return to normal.”

MacDailyNews Take: There’s a map for that, too. And it’s completely blank.
So much for the Verizon is invincible, I can’t wait until the iPhone is on Verizon sentiment.
I’m not addicted to the Internet. I can quit anytime I want to. But I sure do miss it when I can’t connect.
So maybe AT&T;has the EDGE on Verizon’s network after all. Nyuk-Nyuk-Nyuk.
Wow, tinkering with that GSM re we?
You forgot to add “iPhone users not affected” to the headline. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
New Verizon ad – “Can you text me now?”
Verizon had the problem fixed as of 8am EST (nearly two hours ago). It was a network error, not the result of their fledgling 3G pipeline collapsing under the (over-promised) weight of data congestion. And since voice and data are separate with CDMA EV-DO, Verizon customers maintained their stellar voice coverage throughout the short ordeal.
Give me a Verizon iPhone or give me death.
Must be all those Palm devices they are selling – brought their network right to its knees! Yes, all two dozen of them!
I’ve been on the phone all morning without dropping a call. Was it today?
R.I.P. R2! The only time they might even think about being able to get the iPhone is when they all go LTE so that they can do voice and data at the same time.
I’m hoping for the latter.
Everyone has to take shots at those who do not bow down to the Apple altar, eh?
I wonder if MDN will have the same headline if ATT suffers a similar outage.
Verizon also dictates functionality and features of their phones. That’s the big deal-breaker for Apple.
So true … I love the hatred for anything not apple approved
since I don’t have the ATT coverage to start with, if it drops out I’ll never know.
Not as much anymore for verizon. I didn’t see their crap all over the driod stuff.
everyone hear that? R2 will no longer be with us shortly… RIP R2, we hardly knew ye.
if a tree falls in the forrest …. ah, nevermind
@biszaw
MDN has been critical of ATT on numerous occasions
Not really. update the channel cards to svdo and you can without lte. But you know that already. You also quadruple capacity at the same time.
I would NEVER switch to Verizon. Last night, I was using my iPhone to remotely login to a client’s server via the LogMeIn app, while talking to them on the iPhone at the same time — ALL OVER AT&T;’s 3G NETWORK. Take that, you anti-consumer bastards at Verizon!
Maybe it was an Android virus…
How many of you have personal access and use Verizon & AT&T;’s 3G data networks? I do and can tell you that AT&T;’s is about as bad as it gets and Verizon’s is faster, more reliable and way better coverage.
MacFanboiNewz can blindly shill for AT&T;all they want, but as soon as Verizon allows a non-jailbroken iPhone on their net- I’m off AT&T;. It’s not idle opinion- it’s real world experience. AT&T;3G sucks.

Verizon may have a more ubiquitous network, but they are totally anti-consumer with their crippled hardware and nickel-and-dime approach. I know why they bought Alltel, because they were just as bad. Those sods kept $600 of mine, as a deposit, for 8 months after I had ended my service. I had to call them 3 times for them to return my money.
As for outages, TimeWarner cable’s digital tv has been out since last Friday. No notification at all. I had to stop by the local office to find out that they had some equipment damage from a power outage. They promised my service would be back in a few hours, and that was over the weekend, and here we are on Wednesday, no digital cable, no notification, no credit on my account, unless I ask, after it’s restored, etc. They stink. I couldn’t get the US-Canada Olympic hockey game in HD!
Posting this via my Verizon Mi-Fi.
No problems here in San Diego at 10:48 AM PST.
