Inside Apple’s shareholders meeting

Blowout Specials ends 2/28“The press, as usual, was barred from bringing communication devices into the Apple (AAPL) shareholders meeting that began at 1 p.m. EST (10 a.m. PST) Thursday,” Philip Elmer-DeWitt reports for Fortune.

Elmer-DeWitt reports, “But, as often happens, word is leaking out thanks to iPhones in the hands of shareholders who shall go unnamed.”

Elmer-DeWitt is posting live notes on the meeting as it happens. A sample:

Steve is as feisty as ever (suggesting that questioners come to an actual question) and in good humor! …Another shareholder then asked a longwinded question about what Apple/Jobs fears, “What keeps you awake at night?” Jobs deadpans: “Shareholders meetings.” Audience erupts in laughter.

  1. BWAHAHAHA, great response from Steve there!

I just realized that in some ways Steve Jobs reminds me of Robert Fripp, guitarist of the band King Crimson. Both are quite brilliant, very driven, push for visions most of us can’t quite see, and have a reputation for taking things very seriously and not suffering fools gladly – yet when they’re in good spirits, they both have a fabulous sense of humor.

  2. @ Gabriel

The Jobs/Fripp comparison is insightful. Master musician Robert Fripp is famous for his penetrating diatribes against the big record companies and their exploitive relationships with artists. He envisioned fair artist compensation well before it was fashionable.

    Here’s to the visionaries!

And yes, both Jobs and Fripp don’t suffer fools gladly.. Thank God.

  3. Robert Fripp worked at Microsoft’s studios to record new sounds and atmospheres for Windows Vista.

“This interesting factoid: in addition to 200 million Vista users with the 4 note splash, an extract from the Soundscapes’ Vista sessions is estimated to strike up 91% of 32 trillion times on the new MS Mail programme this year. So, one of the planet’s least popular music forms will also be the planet’s most sounded in 2008. This has to be some kind of a record”
