Apple begins iTunes Store countdown to 10 billion songs; win a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card

Apple has begun counting down to the 10 billion songs downloaded milestone for iTunes Store:

One huge milestone for music

Help iTunes reach 10 billion song downloads, and you could win a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card.

iTunes changed the way you buy music, making songs and albums available for download, day or night. Seven years later, we’re about to celebrate our biggest milestone for music, yet — 10 billion songs downloaded. Buy a song, and if it’s the 10 billionth download, you could win a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card. It’s our way of saying thanks.

(No purchase necessary to win. The 10 Billion Songs Countdown Promotion is open only to entrants who are 13 years of age or older at time of entry, and a legal resident of the fifty United States or the District of Columbia, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada (excluding the Province of Quebec), Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom, if available. See the iTunes Store front page in your country for details. Limit 25 entries per person per day. No purchase necessary. Must be 13+ and reside in the participating country. This contest ends after download of the 10 billionth song. The winner will be listed online at apple.com/itunes/10-billion-song-countdown/ within approximately ten days following the end of the Promotion Period.)

The numbers are flipping quickly, but the countdown currently stands at 9,877,672,110 as of the time this article was posted.
