It isn’t surprising. The ads on the stores are mind-blowingly clear and understandable for a phone retailer.
I don’t care about Vodafone’s sales much, but I do have to say that the live model image in the Evony banner ad is much better than the creepy illustrations they use to feature.
Prediction: 250,000 *tablet* will be sold in the first week it goes on sale.
I want to say 500,000, but I don’t the manufacturers can keep up with the demand.

100,000 iPhones sold in UK vs 20,000 Nexus One sold in US in the first week. I wonder how many Nexus one phones were sold in the UK. Google is free and open sourced, and it steals Apple’s great ideas and gives it away free to all. Plus, Google helps keep prices low by helping China jail riff-raff that threaten the nice slavings we enjoy. Yay profits!

Vodaphone is the 3rd carrier in the uk, after O2, then Orange. Like other countries, no one carrier has 100% coverage with their transmitters, and also users have their preferences.
Therefore there is almost certainly likely to be pent-up demand with alternative carriers, as I’m sure in the States with Verizon and Sprint.
O2 and Vodaphone are the two largest carriers in UK, Orange is smaller. Hope that helps.
And just to add Vodaphone owns a great big chunk (50%?) of Verizon
@ Deanbar. Expertly answered. As you so rightly point out, no provider can offer 100% coverage but it’s nice that we Brits now have a choice of provider. When my o2 contract is up I will consider whether or not to jump ship; not for monetary reasons but for the best coverage for me personally.

I remember when i started to get interested in Macs… top of the range Mac was a beige G3 @ 200Mhz. I drove for 2 hours to ‘Apple Warrington’ to see if I could afford a Mac… I’d never have thought I would see Tesco selling iPhones and having iTunes Music Cards at every checkout!
Korea sold over 200,000 iPhone 3G not the S, in just a little over a month. In a market where there were supposedly only 400,000 smartphones to start with, that’s pretty remarkable. So much for Fortress Korea that all those other foreign smartphone makers complained about.
Who was it that said the iPhone would be a dude? Who was it that said the iPhone would never get any market share? And why are those people still employed?

I went out to Partick in Glasgow with my beloved today. We stopped for a coffee in a cafe. About fifteen people were there: five of us with iPhones and a guy discussing work on his MacBook with his pal. Not one other person was hoked up to the free wifi. Never thought I’d see the day since I bought my 6100/66 back in the day.
I was in Costco the other day where there is a booth that sells all types of phones. I asked which are the best selling phones.
They are the I PHONE AND RIMM, they do not sell HTC phones anymore as there is no demand for them.

I’m LIVID that Vodafone isn’t supporting visual voicemail, and charging the same tariff as O2!!! AND they failed to mention the network wasn’t supporting the VVM prior to launch! LIVID!!
