Canaccord analyst: Verizon to get Apple iPhone 4G in June

Apple Online Store“At next week’s event, which is expected to focus on the launch of the long-awaited tablet, the ‘one more thing’ could be a doozy, if Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek is right in a prediction he made this morning,” Eric Savitz reports for Barron’s.

“In a research note, Misek thinks there will actually be ‘two more things,’ in addition to the tablet announcement,” Savitz reports. “One, he expects the unveiling of iPhone OS 4.0. And two, he thinks the company will announce plans to sell the iPhone 4G via Verizon starting in June.”

Savitz reports, “Misek thinks Apple’s supply chain is already prepping for mass production of a new iPhone to ship late in the calendar second quarter, operating on the Verizon network on the CDMA network, but with support as well for the European GSM and HSPA standards. He says and updated 4G phone – he calls it the 4G S – with LTE support will follow in June 2011.”

  1. apple will never announce something so far in advance. that would be absolutely stupid. killing a good chunk of us iphone sales in keeping verizon customers from switching to att. i am pretty sure there will be an iphone on verizon in summer but they will announce it along with the new hardware, available immediately.

  2. That would be a great way to freeze Verizon’s other iPhone wannabe offerings. I have alot of friends on Verizon who wanted the iPhone for ages, but gave up hope and got Blackberries, Droids, etc. and are aware of their drawbacks. Literally all of them would have chosen an iPhone if they could have.
This is something apple MUST do to pull the rug out from the competition. Not everyone can leave their cell provider.

  3. It doesn’t make sense to announce the iPhone 4G on Verizon before announcing the 4G. We saw Apple is now segmenting announcement and it makes sense Apple will speak only about Tablet.

  4. @verizon’s Net is Better
The only problem with using the Verizon 3G data card with iPhone/Wifi is the cost of data. they offer 2 levels of data consumption for $39.99 or $59.99. neither will get me through a month of iPhone media consumption. Watch out for overage costs.

For some of us, verizon just works. If I can’t get an ATT signal at home, or have dead spots on the way home or to work, why get an iphone?

On a side note, I would like to see a public statement from verizon about SVDO … if they plan to change the channel cards if so, when.

  6. Makes sense they would have to announce a Verizon iPhone 6 months ahead of release. They did the same for the original iPhone due to the FCC approval process. Same would be true for the Verizon iPhone release as well.
