Saudi Prince Alwaleed meets with News Corp’s Murdoch to discuss investments

Christmas PD5FM $10 discount“Saudi billionaire investor Prince Alwaleed bin Talal held meetings this week with News Corp.’s chairman and chief executive Rupert Murdoch to discuss investments, including Rotana Media, according to a statement from the prince’s office Saturday,” Andrew Critchlow reports for Dow Jones Newswires.

“The meetings, which took place in New York on Jan. 14, ‘touched upon future potential alliance with News Corp,’ the statement said, adding that Rotana and LBCSAT, 90% owned by Prince Alwaleed, were discussed,” Critchlow reports. “Rotana which hosts News Corp.’s Fox channels in Saudi Arabia via its television network, owns rights to more than 2,000 Arabic movies and the world’s largest Arabic language music library, according to Zawya.com data.”

Critchlow reports, “Over the past two decades Prince Alwaleed, through his Riyadh-listed conglomerate Kingdom Holding Co., has focused his investments on banks, hotels and media firms, building sizable stakes in companies like Citigroup, News Corp, Apple Inc., and Time Warner Inc. News Corp. owns Dow Jones & Co., publisher of this newswire and The Wall Street Journal.”

  1. What does this have to do with apple any connection I dint see the link I read Mdn for my mac news not world news I hope this isn’t going to be a trend of discussing othere things besides what’s going on with apple

  2. Saudi Prince Alweleed has some terrible investments, apart for Apple. Very odd. Who is his investment banker?!

“Prince Alwaleed, … has focused his investments on … Citigroup…”

…Who lead the way into the ongoing Bush Depression. Evil. But suck as a company.

…”News Corp…” Evil I suppose if you like destroying truth and beauty in the world, that’s not a bad investment.

“…Apple Inc….” Non-sequeur much? Huh? Well at least that investment qualifies this article at MDN.

“… and Time Warner Inc.” Evil. That fits the trend.

Except where does Apple fit in this list again?!

    Oh I got it.

    MANIA!

Invest in the most negative and the most positive companies available. Skip everything in between. Try Lithium. It might help.

  3. Yeah, when “macho man” George Walker Bush wasn’t “cuttin’ brush,” he was making kissy-face and holding hands with Saudi royalty.

But that was OK because Shrub was a ‘war president.’

  4. @ ChrissyOne,

Hey, tell me about it. I had to knock over a gas station just to pay my yearly MobileMe subscription, and I’m gonna hock my wife’s wedding rings to buy one of those new Apple tablets coming out. Times sure are tough.

I’m sure that somehow this can all be blamed on Obama.

  5. @ Sir Gill Bates

Hey yeah, that’s no problem at all!!! It’s called the Republican Postponement Principal.

If something bad happens in the first year of your term (like, say, 9/11) it was the previous president’s fault for ignoring all those unconnected dots. *Unless* you’re a Democrat – in which case your responsibility begins on day one. Or earlier even.
I wrote about the phenomenon in detail a while back-

  6. For those who haven’t figured it out yet, the Saudi royal family likes MONEY. Islam? Oh that old thing.

    This explains several things:

    1) Most of the Muslim world hold the Saudi royal family in low regard.

    2) The pally-pal relationship between the Bush family and the Bin Laden family. (Yes, this is a fact kids).

    3) Osama Bin Laden. He pissed off his family, so the royals let the Bush family use Osama as a pawn in the Neo-Con-Job illegal invasion and take over of Iraq. Very convenient. So is his still supposedly being ‘at large’.

    4) The push to invade Iran. The Saudi royal family never liked Iran much, and vice versa.

    5) The Saudi royal family investments in “The Great Satan” corporations.

The machinations go on and on. Don’t look so surprised. “Money changes everything.” ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”tongue wink” style=”border:0;” />

  7. OT!
@ ChrissyOne: Sadly, the Republican Postponement Principle, aka Blame Shift, doesn’t fit:

    1) The ongoing Bush Depression. The created it. They own it.

    2) The ongoing massive federal budget deficits. They created it. They own it.

    3) The endless ‘War on Terror’ in Iraq and Afghanistan. They created it. They own it.

    4) HATE MEDIA. They created it. They own it.

    5) The NEO-CON-JOB. They created it. They own it.

    6) The Bailouts. They created it. They own it.

But of course, neglect not the SOS pulled by the Democrats as well. Witness the politician called ‘Nancy Pelosi’, as trustworthy as a scorpion on acid.

Treat ANY politician as a ‘savior’ at your peril. It’s called ‘Voter’s Remorse.’ These days in the USA its is inevitable no matter which way you vote. Time for another revolution IYAM.
