Jason Kincaid writes for TechCrunch, “It’s certainly a tempting offer (at least, more tempting than submitting leaked photos and getting zilch in return), but Valleywag may be on the wrong side of the law. We spoke to a lawyer about the legality of the bounty, who says that Apple could have a claim against Gawker/Valleywag for inducing breach of contract, since anyone who has their hands on the tablet is certainly under a nondisclosure agreement. This could result in tort damages, with potential for punitive damages.”

Issue failed prototypes and mockups to people you suspect of disloyalty.
Let them flood Valleywag with different versions of the device, all claiming to be the genuine article, all claiming the reward.
Let Valleywag get egg on their face publicly for getting their “exclusives” so badly wrong.
Have Legal sue Valleywag into oblivion for inducing breach of contract amongst the leakers.
Finally, have the leakers and their families killed.

This must be a first! I don’t remember anyone ever offering money for clandestine pictures of an unannounced, but roumored-about product.
This frenzy had certainly reached new heights. As annoyed as some people around Apple most certainly are (not wanting to spoil anything), I’m sure they are quite thrilled that the fever is so high.
There is no money in the world that can buy THAT kind of publicity.
