RUMOR: Photo of 10-inch Apple tablet face plate leaked (with photo)

“A source has sent us a photograph of what he claims to be the glass to be used in Apple’s as-yet unannounced tablet device,” Bryan Chaffin reports for The Mac Observer.

The photo “is just the glass, which looks a lot like a large iPod,” Chaffin reports. “According to our source, the glass measures 10″ on the diagonal.”

Chaffin reports, “We weren’t able to double source the image, but we do trust the source that provided us with the image.”

  1. I don’t think so. Why is there a -proximity sensor- (the small horizontal line) at the top?

It’s there for a reason on an iPhone – because the iPhone needs to sense when you hold it up to your ear (or pocket it) so that it can turn off the screen.

With a 10″ tablet, you’re not going to be doing that. No need for a proximity sensor.

    (Unless you were a giant).

  2. Let’s keep an open mind here people that could be a speaker hole(You would like it to do audio, correct?) Perhaps it is a microphone for audio input… Maybe it blasts a laser outta there for that rare occasion when some idiot picks it up and starts bad mouthing Apple… See, the possibilities are infinite ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  3. Fake. Tablet will probably be wide-screen if anything. Also, (just guessing) Apple probably won’t have that much space around the border. The front will probably be 99% screen.

    @Dave

There are two proximity sensors on the iPhone 3G/3GS. They are small almost invisible circles to the left side of the horizontal opening. The third circle is the ambient light sensor. The horizontal opening is the speaker port/earpiece for regular phone calls.

    Do you have an iPhone?

What do you know about what Apple thinks we need as far a sensors on the new device?

  5. my problem with this device is will we have to pay for 3G access? If so, this is going to fail! If we can just use it as a wireless device then good, but if we have to purchase an additional 3G contract, no way. I’ll have to buy Amazon’s Kindle, which I don’t want to do.

the problem here is that my company will be buying 100 of these machines in April when our fiscal year begins. We already have iPhones therefore this will be a perfect addition to the fold. But if we have to pay additional wireless charges, there is no way that I could justify this to my company.

  6. Aah!
    At last!
    The Big Ass iPhone!
Its going to be 4 feet long, 2 feet wide and that slot is for sweeping garbage into.

Buy two and turn them into a Big Ass iPhone Bed.
