“I’m hearing there is no camera, webcam or otherwise, on The Tablet,” John Gruber reports for Daring Fireball.

As Electronista reports, Gruber’s “sources have historically been accurate.”

Historically, I poop after dinner…
Mental masterbation continues. These faux new stories are a waste of time
Am I the only person is only mildly interested in tablet news?
I’d rather pontificate over the 4G iPhone!
No camera, that seems odd. I mean, most of travel would require a camera as a way to input images into applications for use. An example is a receipt of purchase.
I guess we will know if we get a tablet/slate computer or just rumors, but the camera is a mute point if no such device is going to be produced.
I believe it is a strong possiblity, but let us see what happens.
Does John Gruber serve his OWN “claim chowder” as well?
Makes sense.
If you want a camera, get an iPod nano.
Why would Apple not put an iSight on the iSlate? Apple could take the video conferencing market and make it theirs by offering a Windows iChat software. It worked with iTunes and it will work with iChat too.
Hmm…imagine how useful a tablet would be with a camera on the back…say for grabbing images of barcodes and other OCR type material that would be useful for verifying information in, say, a hospital. All sorts of inventory and data-type environments.
Makes sense … I guess. Is this an iPhone (not “good”) or a computer (“good”)? Oh, wait! My MacBook (and my wife’s iMac) has a camera.
How can you teleconference without a “tele”? Audio conference? Sure. Lower maintenance, for sure. Good enough? Hmm.
And what about those doctors wanting to use it to share patient info for remote diagnostics? Again, not so “good”.
Then again … RUMOR ! ! !
This is f’d up news if true!
Instead there will be a transporter portal in the thing
No wheels either!
yea the camera will come on the second generation, they gotta have a reason to get ppl to buy the new one next year. they famous for that keep something thats common for everyone else off and use some excuse like internet bandwidth wouldnt have been able to handle it on 3G connections and then throw it on the damn thing next year. Kinda like radios on ipods what happened to the oh u dont need it and and blah blah fast forward to today and they are on the nanos. if its not on it on the first gen it will make it onto the second gen
First gen is DOA with me if no webcam!
It would make much sense NOT to have one, so I kind of doubt this one. Virtually every Apple product comes with a camera. Only reason I could see would be a supply problem.
I heard it’s Fuel Cell and Solar Powered
RUMOR: Its going to have a 5mega pixel camera, its going to have a web cam, its going to have video conferencing, its not going to have a camera at all.
I really like today’s rumor. It clearly demonstrates that NOBODY knows what Apple is going to announce (if they do announce), nor do they know what that rumored device will include (if it includes anything at all).
Any speculation about the device, or its specs are pure wild ass guesses based on nothing. Purveyors of nothing (including MDN) aren’t spreading news, they are hit whores extreme.
Fuck ’em all.
Apple had a patent granted a couple of years ago where they talked about integrating a camera into an LCD display (not in the surround, but interspersing CCD elements into the spaces between the LCD pixels). Maybe “no camera” really means “no separate camera”?
Well, this is a 50-50 thing after all. Either it has it or it doesn’t.
Not much of a prediction either way.
Gruber is correct sometimes, and sometimes he isn’t.
We all can guess here, and some will be correct. It doesn’t mean that anybody knows anything, or has any insight.
It’s just a flip of the coin.
I would be more impressed if someone could describe the way a part of this tablet would work, and was correct.
That would mean something.
i read on this blog (link below) that the rumors about no camera are false and also the tablet will be completely different in design from iPhone.
http://techztalk.com/techwebsite/01-12-01-apples-upcoming-tablet-causing-10-inch-display-shortage
that would be so backward! Imagine a super sheik tablet – the Apple way – and an after-market, bolt-on web cam!
Of course there will be a web-cam – maybe it’s behind the screen!
this makes perfect sense
cheaper version: LCD, front facing camera, no bells and whistles
premium version: oled screen, front cam, back cam, other bells and whistles
Backs up my hypothesis all along that most Mac rumors are perpetrated by people meant to make Apple shares FALL on product announcement day so they can grab more for themselves long term. Do all iPod/iPhone/MBPs have all the conventional features we expect? No. Do they all WOW with something different and new? Yes. And of course Gen 2 and 3 will be home runs if not Gen 1.
It has a camera. No wait, it does not have one. No, it does. WTF just see what happens on the 27th.
I don’t see a need for a camera on a tablet.
