“MacBooks based on Intel’s new Core i5 processors are expected to appear in the not-too-distant future. Here’s some guesswork–updating a previous post–based on my discussions with Intel at the Consumer Electronics Show last week just after the chipmaker announced the new mobile chips,” Brooke Crothers reports for CNET.
“Simply put, Arrandale is a Core i3 or i5 central processing unit (CPU) package that includes graphics silicon. Until Arrandale, Intel graphics was in a separate package–referred to as the chipset,” Crothers reports. “Making it part of the CPU results in lower power consumption and, consequently, better battery life. Arrandale’s graphics also offers a step up in performance over the prior-generation Core 2 integrated graphics.”
Crothers reports, “I should add that any laptop with a new Core i series processor is going to be faster than a laptop with the previous-generation Core 2 chip.”

Double edged sword if it cuts out alternative solutions, competition and therefore any great need to progress it than in anything but a leisurely fashion.
I like my MB nvidia: No thanks.
hmmm….
Doesn’t sound good for gamers.
Wait… No discrete graphics card?
These are MBPs. I would be shocked it they didn’t have dedicated GPUs as well as the intel integrated.
Gamers (chuckle) would be fine.
Just because somebody doesn’t play games with ridiculously demanding 3D application doesn’t mean that they aren’t gamers. World of Warcraft and EVE Online are still awesome games.
Fine if the on-board graphics can be user-selectable for power saving situations and a REAL dedicated graphics card ca be selected for speed and over-all better performance.
I doubt Apple would use the integrated graphics chip alone.
Like the mythic iSlab, I’ll opt for a wait and see attitude. Passing snap-judgements based on rumor makes little sense.
Nonsense.
No integrated graphics for Apple
Crothers reports, “I should add that any laptop with a new Core i series processor is going to be faster than a laptop with the previous-generation Core 2 chip.”
I would also add that these Apple Laptops will be also be expensive.
