CES is no match for Apple and CEO Steve Jobs

“Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer will be there. So will Intel chief Paul Otellini, Ford chief Alan Mulally, Nokia chief Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo and Qualcomm chief Paul E. Jacobs,” Brian Caulfield reports for Forbes.

MacDailyNews Take: Yawnfest as usual.

Caulfield reports, “And those are just the headliners. More than 2,500 exhibitors will be hawking 20,000 new products this week at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The biggest no show? Apple.”

“No one at Apple has said anything, officially, about a new product to the press [but if a tablet]… is coming, count on Jobs to deliver the news himself, quite possibly by the end of the month. Coming at the end of a decade that saw Apple’s shares rise more than 700%–thanks to the iPod and the iPhone–the new product promises to be the biggest technology feat, or flop, of the year,” Caulfield writes. “How do you compete with that?”

  1. I second the vote of confidence for Mulally and his job @ Ford. It wasn’t an enviable one to take on, but he’s making a lot of the right moves, and hopefully will let the European division bring a lot of their designs over here without too much “American-ization.” I think the US car market has a place for well designed, fuel efficient and great handling cars which put the driver experience first… not a bad niche to shoot for as it will be growing, like the Mac market.

On the CES front – I can’t imagine any benefit Apple gets by showing up, other than they would dominate the news cycle simply by being there…even the non-Apple geek reporters would get into the rumor game and be holding their breath waiting for the curtain to rise… it’s best Apple skips this. They’ll almost make as much news simply by not being there – as it is every other product will be sold touting it’s compatibility with iPhone, iPod Touch… or compared to something Apple… either way, Apple still gets their pub. It’s really kind of funny, but I doubt this phenomenon has ever existed before in US business. The less they say, the more people talk about them. Brilliant!!
