Magic Mouse: Apple doubles share of mouse market in 8 weeks

“Apple’s new Magic Mouse helped Apple see a twofold increase in its share of domestic mice sales last month, AppleInsider has learned, garnering the Mac maker a double-digit slice of the market for the first time ever,” Neil Hughes and Kasper Jade report for AppleInsider.

“NPD Group sales data for the new device, which was unveiled alongside new iMacs this past October, shows Apple to have captured just over 10 percent of the market in November, representing a first for the Cupertino-based company,” Hughes and Jade report. “‘Sales in November were through the roof,’ Stephen Baker, analyst with the market research firm, told AppleInsider. ‘[The Magic Mouse] had the best month for a mouse product from Apple that we’ve ever seen.'”

Hughes and Jade report, “The aforementioned sales data was compiled from standalone Magic Mouse sales only — those included with the new 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs were not factored into the mix. Similarly, however, the new iMac was the best-selling desktop in the U.S in October.”

Unfortunately, there are no online stores for this part of Europe. When I was in Switzerland in early December I’ve been there for five days only, Magic mouse delivery time for Swiss Apple Store is 7 to 10 days. And no, you can not buy it on Swiss store and have it sent to anywhere out of Switzerland.

  2. I got a magic mouse and as for expose as I loved the buttons on the side of the mighty mouse, I have downloaded an app called magicprefs and am now just using the two finger click for expose and the three finger click for spaces I found it confused it too often using taps and that the zoom function didn’t work very well. The mighty mouse is so much better as you don’t have the problem of the scroll wheel not working ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  3. Gunk-free. No uncleanable ball. Great! Went through three of the Mighty Mouse – both wired and wireless. All junk, all gone now.

The Magic Mouse coolness factor is very high, but Apple’s control panel and lack of settings totally SUCKS! BetterTouchTool makes it usable at least. MagicPrefs didn’t work for me.

Overall, a big improvement over Mighty Mouse, but it hardly “rules” mousedom.

  4. They had tons in my Florida location today. I got one with the xmas $$’s from grammy. Woo Hoo. I friggin love it. Not much thick than an iphone! You can hold it in your hand and flick up and down through a webpage like a giant iphone screen.

I use magicpref as well. There are some gestures that do not work well. One I found for expose that works great though is the four finger click. Give that a try. I works every time for me and is faster than using hot corners.

  6. After less than 3 months of Magic Mouse and six batteries, the last set being lithiums, a waste of money, I have shut off bluetooth and plugged usb Mighty Mouse back in. I have also invested in ClickScroll Application, which to me is more ergonomically correct than scrolling with either mouse. Fingers have never been happier.
