Apple debuts new iPhone 3GS TV ad: ‘12 Apps of Xmas’ (with video)

Apple has debuted a new iPhone 3GS television commercial on U.S. network and cable television, “12 Apps of Xmas.”

On the twelfth day of Christmas my iPhone gave to me:
Twelve cookies cooking
Eleven cards a sending
Ten gifts for giving
Nine songs for singing
Eight bells for ringing
Seven slopes of skiing
Six games for playing
Five gold rings
Four hot lattes
Three flights home
Two feet of snow
And an app that can light up the tree.

MacDailyNews Note: The app that can “light up the tree” is the free Schlage LiNK app from Crayon Interface, Inc. The app works with Schlage LiNK systems and allows users to monitor doors and grant entry from anywhere in the world. The app also controls other Z-Wave devices, including those connected to Christmas tree lights. More info about Schlage LiNK systems here. More info about Z-Wave devices here.

  1. Great ad, but in my opinion, it would have been better had they actually had a singer sing the “12 apps for Christmas”. I know some might have a harder time understanding the lyrics, so sub title, but have it sung in such a way that there is a little more Christmas Holiday flare. It’s like visiting Santa and have him laugh, “ha, ha, ha” instead of the boisterous, hearty, booming and very familiar “HO!, HO!, HO!”

Or since it is the iPhone, it’s like the ad was done using the voice overlay of that AT&T;customer service guy with the funky hair and head always tilting to one side…

  3. I myself detected a great disturbance in the rotation of the planet, as if it had become unstuck from some hidebound tie of political correctness. Inertia being what it is I witnessed many an assumption (yours perhaps?) flying by me at great speed.

Call it what you will, it’s still Saturnalia. If you can’t beat them, co-opt their holidays.

  4. Well I thought it was cool too, downloaded the app, then went to buy a GE Zwave outlet controller ($50!!!) and only then find out that this “free” app requires a $12.99/month Schlage LiNK subscription to get an “activation code” and do anything at all. Bummer. Someone tell me I’m wrong pls

  5. Actually Skinnert you aren’t wrong. It does require other equipment/hardware to make the app work. There is a monthly fee. However, there has been a movement across the web asking them to have either a lifetime membership or a six-month free trial. I can keep you up to date on what I hear if you are curious.
I have done quite a bit of research on Schlage LiNK myself. I found out is can control more than just your Xmas light. It can also control your door locks, thermostat, and live stream video from your security cameras all to your phone. Not just your iPhone either, it works with all web-enabled phones.
