“It’s official: the Apple iPhone is the Gadget Show’s Gadget of the Decade,” Channel 5’s (UK) FiveFWD website proclaims.
In a special awards edition of the Gadget Show last night, Apple’s all-conquering wonder-phone made off with the grand prize as the single most important gadget of the last 10 years.
And it’s no real surprise either – the iPhone’s very existence has completely transformed the mobile phone industry, singlehandedly making a touch interface and online app store must-have items for any half-decent phone.
Needless to say, the iPhone was also named the “Phone of the Decade” in the awards extravaganza.
Another all-star Apple gadget triumphed in the “Music Gadget of the Decade” category, with the ubiquitous iPod the only name ever really in the running.

Although they got it right, the Gadget Show is a load of rubbish, so it’s hardly the greatest accolade.
Hey Ballmer!
Still like your plan Monkey Boy?!
Gotta disagree with you. The Gadget Show is just great fun with likeable presenters who seem to be having a blast!
In fact, it seems sometimes that they have to force themselves to look at alternatives to Apple products in order to appear unbiased.
Microsoft, Palm, Nokia, Rim, Verizon, etc…
They must hate waking up every day and reading the news.
A toy phone that doesn’t have Microsoft Office apps for mobile, a physical keyboard, or even a removable battery is ‘Gadget of the Decade’?
Can you MAC lemmings explain to me how a phone that’s good for running a couple of burp and fart apps “…has completely transformed the mobile phone industry”? The I-Phone is simply an electronic whoopee cushion. Get over it.
Your potential. Our passion.™
Zune Tang, glad to again see your inimitable, completely oblivious to reality view applied to this news. Keep up the good work!
I wonder if anyone at MS forwards your remarks to S. Ballmer to comfort him with the knowledge that MS still has at least one real fan out here? Wouldn’t surprise me one bit. I’m sure you agree with those of us who are also Ballmer fans, hoping that he continues to lead Microsoft for as long as it takes!
@ Zune Tang

If we were 3 years old perhaps. Or dyslexic.
I’m inclined to think it ought to be the iPod. iPhone is an revolutionary evolution that has its marking more on the next decade.
The next news is that the iPhone and iPod being named “Gadget of the Century”, if you consider 1900 till 2010! Was there ever a gadget that you can use to surf the net, listen to music, watch videos and movies, play 3D games, and office/work all on one device? Besides the iPhone, other gadgets seem like a heap of crap.

Two impertinent questions:
WTF is The Gadget Show?
As usual, the Microsoft guy (Zune Tang) doesn’t get what’s happening with the new era of technology. It’s a reflection of the entire Redmond-centric culture.
Zune Tang must be one of Mr Ballmer kids: he uses the same brilliant arguments and has the same knowledge of the electronics industry.
Commenting on a Zune Tang rant as if it wasn’t satire.
What is this?
Must be n00b day at MDN.
@ Big Al
Everyone knows Zune Tang is the MDN webmaster.
@Giles
And is also Rattymouse.
For those the other side of the Big Pond, the Gadget Show is a UK TV programme aimed squarely at gadget lovers of all descriptions. As DHBat says, the presenters are all Apple fans who try to be unbiased – a real problem sometimes!
It’s the only one of is kind on mainstream UK TV so gets a lot of visibility.
You’ve got to remember that these awards were voted for by the public so it’s a pretty fair sweep of the silver cupboard by Apple.
By the way, thanks to Zune Tang for his usual brilliant “bon mot”!
