“Mozilla has confirmed that it will launch its first version of Firefox for mobile this month,” Dan Worth reports for iTNews. “A company spokesperson told V3.co.uk that a final version will be out before the end of the year, and a release candidate will be launched next week.”
“Mobile Firefox will be based around the soon-to-be-launched Firefox 3.6,” Worth reports.
“The software will initially be available only on Nokia’s N900 handset, which uses the Linux-based Maemo operating system, and will be able to run 30 or so Firefox extensions,” Worth reports. “A Windows Mobile version of Firefox should arrive next year, and a Google Android version is also in development.”
Worth reports, “Mozilla will announce more details on the mobile platform next week.”

No Mac version? I wouldn’t use it anyway.
I haven’t used firefox in a very long time…almost two years now.
FINALLY! Been waiting for this.
Not since Safari 4 debuted.
While it’s very unlikely that Apple will allow it, this really should be approved for the App Store…
Aww crap read too fast no Firefox version for the iPhone yet… 🙁
i hope they work out an iphone version, i simply cannot surf without ad block plus and no script.
Can’t wait to try the iPhone/iPod touch versi—oh wait, Steve Jobs says I don’t need it. Steve always knows what’s best for me.
Wait … a phone running Firefox extensions that were intended for DESKTOPS? Sounds like an insecure clusterfsck waiting to happen to me.
I admit, I’d love to have AdBlock on my iPhone. The lack of Flash support helps, but I’d dig it if Firefox came to the iPhone and the plug-ins like AdBlock worked. Or heck, if Safari for iPhone had an AdBlocker, I’d use that. Either way…I hate waiting for ads to load over 3g.
Does Apple allow other browsers to be installed on the iPhone? I thought it only wants Safari to be used.
@nrrdgrrl
If you are willing to jailbreak it and pony up some cash, there is an ad blocker available.

I’ve not used Firefox since Safari 4.0
Firefox had been a really stable web browser, and had a lot of advantages over the previous version of Safari 3.0, especially in terms of Java performance, in my opinion. Safari 4 blew everyone away.

Will people using the g-phone or chrome really use it? Winmo version?? Sounds like nokias Linux isnthe only place for it to maintain relevance.
I doubt Mozilla would even bother with the iPhone. That’s a can of worms for developers right now.
The press release mentions several phone and clearly does not mention the iPhone.
Perhaps they’re waiting to announce an iPhone version until it’s approved.
I doubt it, but it is a possibility.
