Analyst: Verizon’s ‘disappointing’ Motorola Droid sales may force carrier into Palm deal

MacMall 96 Hour Apple Sale“Palm may prove to be Verizon’s best hope if the Droid line doesn’t bear fruit, Kaufman Bros analyst Shaw Wu said in a note today,” Electronista reports.

“He points to contacts within the cell industry and supply chain that suggest Verizon will carry one or more of Palm’s webOS phones, such as the Pre or Pixi, sometime in 2010,” Electronista reports. “Sales of both the Motorola Droid and HTC’s Droid Eris have purportedly been ‘somewhat disappointing’ and may lead to Verizon using Palm to bolster its smartphone catalog.”

Electronista reports, “Adoption of the smartphones could happen as early as the first half of the year as Sprint’s exclusive isn’t expected to last past 2009.”

MacDailyNews Take: “Hold the mediocre also-ran, we’ll have some third-rate instead” is not a winning strategy. This is like a auto dealership dropping Pontiac for Oldsmobile. Verizon’s between a Droid and a Pre place. In other words, they’re up the creek without an iPhone. They need to stop fooling around with misleading ads and build a network that actually allows users to simultaneously talk and surf the web/email (imagine that!), beg Steve Jobs for an iPhone deal, and start acting like the dumb pipe they are.

  1. I don’t know if this will get printed– hey, whatever… I use the iphone and the motorla droid. To begin, Kudos to Apple for setting the pace in what will prove to be an interesting and exciting long distance event. As stated, Apple set a nice pace in the start even though the first gen iphone was more buggy than a louisianna swamp. The 3gs is very, very nice. But, when I got my hands on the droid i was pleased and have basically abandoned the iphone. Think about it: battery, true multitasking, no Itunes (thank goodness), it lives on the vzw network (north america), pull out keyboard and virtual keyboard (big +).. The reason the droid may not be hitting sales is because the Motorola brand took a hit with several misfires with the Q. [ I’ve been using mobile smart phone since its inception. I’ve gotten used to it and like the implementation on the Samsung devices, however, I will not lose any sleep when I jettison the smartphone forever.] I’m really looking forward to Lenovo’s Ophone. This fisty cuff between att and vzw is cracking me up.. it’s like the Hatfields and the McCoy’s.. Don’t forget the shotgun and the hounddog.. Yeehaw. Or should I say Goohaw!

  2. This is the best time to comment that you impressed us with your professional knowledge referring to this good topic. Hence, I have to attempt to accomplish the economics thesis on the base of your issue. Or probably, that is manageable to notice the thesis service.
