I’m a Mac and Windows 7 was my idea: Microsoft exec admits Windows 7 a knockoff of Apple’s Mac OS X

Mac SystemsIn an interview published today, PCR spoke with Microsoft’s partner group manager, Simon Aldous, who offered this admission about Windows 7:

The interesting thing is, [Windows 7] is basically the next version of Vista… One of the things that people say an awful lot about the Apple Mac is that the OS is fantastic, that it’s very graphical and easy to use. What we’ve tried to do with Windows 7 – whether it’s traditional format or in a touch format – is create a Mac look and feel in terms of graphics.

Aldous, perhaps realizing that he might have just been a little too honest for a Microsoft employee, then added:

We’ve significantly improved the graphical user interface, but it’s built on that very stable core Vista technology, which is far more stable than the current Mac platform, for instance.

MacDailyNews Take: Proof that Windows 7ista, with its upside-down, and backwards Mac ripoff UI is “far more stable than the current Mac platform?” Nope, none given by the Microsoft flack. There never is.

Full interview here.

MacDailyNews Take: I’m a Mac and Windows 7 was my idea. Some things never change. What’s “new” in Microsoft’s latest version of Windows is often quite old in Apple Mac.

    Do you?

  2. “[Windows] which is far more stable than the current Mac platform”

This really makes me angry. As the MDN take said, no evidence.

Our macs run months at a time without needing to restart. Outrageous to say something like that.

  3. Yes, we know that ZT is really a Mac fanboi and is just tossing out his/her satire, but it is still boring. The only people on this forum that think he his cute are the dummies that think he is a real troll.

So for all you guys who keep saying nonsense such as “keep it coming ZT!” grow up. You are showing your lack of intelligence or perhaps you are still but teenagers. Either way, you are the ones who are quietly being laughed at.

  4. @alsoran….I have been saying that for a very long time. Once in a blue moon ZT will actually say something that is genuinely funny but 99.99% of the time, it is the same old predicable slop over and over and over again.

Do I have to read him…no, but when you read those ‘dummies’ (as you call them) comments, then it gets longer and longer to scan the good and pertinent comments.

  5. “CORE VISTA TECHNOLOGY IS FAR MORE STABLE THAN THE CURRENT MAC PLATFORM.”

That is probably true…. if he means source code stability, and not functional stability…. because they haven’t changed anything in their “Vista core” since copying it from XP. It’s the same old shit underneath.

Mac OS X is in a constant state of flux, flowing towards perfection, always improving, optimizing, growing, creating new technologies for itself.

It’s asinine to even compare the two.

  6. No, Mac Daddy. It’s actually true: Windows 7 *is* more stable than the current Mac platform. Win7 is much heavier and has much more monolithic code giving Win7 a much lower center of gravity. Why the extra weight of the Win Genuine Advantage anti-user code base is enough to outweigh a good portion of OS X’s kernel. So Win7 wins hands down — Win7 is so solid, it’s ossified! Take that OS X!

I think a lot of people are in the boat of “hating it, but having to use it”. In my mixed-office environment, I use it only to correct the font/graphic issues that get screwed in the translation when Keynote presentations get exported to Powerpoint.

This isn’t a knock on Keynote. If I was in an all-Mac office, I’d never have to open that M$ abomination again.

  8. @MacAdvocate,

I think it is possible to export Keynote presentations via QuickTime and then use in on PCs, if the PC has the free download of QT installed.

    But what do I know – I’m a pig!

  9. No operating system is entirely stable. From the massive reaches of software venders and hardware venders making your machine completely customizable, there are problems with every single Operating System. The GUI doesn’t mean a darn thing if nothing works in your system. One would now realize that 90% of your problems are your userbase and how locked down your OS is. For example, there seem to be alot of “problems” with Linux, but it’s only because it’s so open to so many hardware and software venders and is completely customizable to the point that the platform itself is entirely open source.

Mac on the other hand is a little locked down, open to more experience users, but still locked down. Windows is the same way, but it also has the largest user base, thus more testing and more bugs found faster. Tested under the most excruciating circumstances, I would say Windows has the most support and resources, but it’s only because it needs it where linux and mac do not need large support and resources, especially linux which has greatly improved its resources and support in the last two years.

I think Linux is finally becoming an actual player in the battle of preferred OS’s, however, it’s still not recommended for a beginer in computers.

The fact that windows used mac, oh well, crap happens, we all get our ideas from someone else so stop whining. The fact that windows still sucks, never really changed.

  10. Like I always tell my medical students and residents when they say that the patient’s “vital signs are stable”, I point out that they would be “stable”, too, if the patient was dead.

Rock solid Windows 7 on my Dell is humming along nicely, thank you. And everything is super-easy. You MAC sheep have no idea. The key is you have to know what you’re doing. Obviously MAC fangirls don’t know how to maintain computers, install anti-virus software and keep malware defenses up to date. You should also sign up for Microsoft’s Window Live OneCare subscription service. If you don’t know how to do that then maybe you shouldn’t be using computers.

    Your potential. Our passion.™
